I certainly am not attempting to step on Alan's toes as he will no doubt respond, but he has made a comment in the past that seems relevant:

Ronnie Coleman has steak & potatoes or chicken & rice after he trains. So much for citing the pros' simple carb slammage postW. Your postworkout protein/carb shake makes you feel good, well that's fantastic. I high-five the cute receptionist on the way out of the gym. Everyone has their own postworkout preference. Ultimately it doesn't fcking matter as long as you nail your targeted macronutrients by the end of the day.

not eating after a workout is stupid, plain and simple. And all that pre-workout and digestion rate stuff... plop. Besides that, you need to be fuelling every 2-3 hours anyway, so unless your workouts are 10 minutes long you're probably going to be eating something not long after your workout. Your body's just done all that work and you're not going to reward it with even a scrap of food...? bleh

and as for alan's 'it doesn't ****ing matter as long as you hit your macronutrients for the day'... I can safely say that if you eat one 3,500kcal meal at 5am every day, you're doing it wrong, unless you're into sumo wrestling.

To my understanding, carbs after a good workout will help you get your energy level back out soon (faster recovery).

    This is wrong.

You need to feed continuous and that's why all hardcore pros use:

I don't even eat post-workout when cutting. Lifting suppresses my appetite for a few hours anyway.

I have dinner 2-3 hours later and hit my macros for the day. During my last cut my pre-workout meal was my last meal of the day and I didn't lose muscle mass either.

Honestly, I only drink chocolate milk post-workout while bulking because its easy calories, tastes good and puts me in a good mood, and means I don't have to eat till my stomach hurts when I get home.

It seems to me that only a fool would go out of his/her way to avoid eating a PWO meal if they have the opportunity to do so. I understand that some people can't eat directly after and blah blah but trying to be the anti-bro and not eat PWO just seems stupid.

I don't think anyone is intentionally going out of their way to not eat right after a workout to prove a point or be anti-bro, but the point being stressed is you don't have to go out of your way TO have one right after so many just don't. You can if you want, you can wait a while, you can pound a cheeseburger while you workout if it makes you feel better, but neither will have any noticeable benefit over the other. Simply do whatever floats your boat.

Yeah dude, the gym is flooded with guys who are eating cheeseburgers mid workout. I just keep slipping on those greasy burger boxes around the squat rack all the time. It's so common. They're surely just as beneficial.

We're not telling people to avoid post workout meals, we're saying that it doesn't fukcing matter when you eat, just as long as you meet your requirements. If you somehow can't get your post workout meal within an hour after training, there is no reason to stress over it. What ever is convenient for you is the bottom line.

The sarcasm was well over your head. Anyone who thinks I was seriously suggesting eating a cheeseburger while working out, is obviously a little on the slow side.

    Get back to the misc.

    Normal post workout for me:

    -1 scoop whey protein w/water

Post workout if training mma/mountain biking, long run/etc later in the day:

-1 scoop whey protein isolate w/water + honey
    -dried mango or ripe banana
    -possible electrolyte type drink

Eating post workout is very important if you are double dipping for the day, otherwise just stick with something you like. I like my protein shake with water afterwards normally because I'm dehydrated and it makes me feel better.
