i always warm up on a stationary bike followed by some stretching before i hit the weights, but is it really that important to stretch and cool down at end of workout? all comments appreciated

People typically do dynamic stretching before working out. If they have a problem area then they may do some static stretches on those areas. After your workout static stretching is fine.
I do dynamic stretches before I workout and on leg and deadlift days I do static stretching for my lack of flexibility in my hips. After my workout I do static stretches.New England Patriot
