Why do you need Carbs do Build Muscle? (srs)

Protein is what rebuilds and makes muscles bigger so why do you need carbohydrates?

    Thanks.

need is a bit excessive (since carbs are unneeded for survival-but thats a whole different story). But an energy surplus is needed to build muscle, carbs r energy.

also, carbs are pretty efficient at giving us energy to work out, etc.

    Glycogen...
    http://www.exrx.net/Nutrition/Glycogen.html

protein is still more important than carbs. I doubt you can build much muscle on a low-protein diet. If I go without protein I also feel ravenously hungry even if I'm getting some fiber...I think you need protein too for maximum satiation...

I honestly don't know if you do. I think some people out there have probably built muscle on KETO. If you are running a caloric surplus and getting the protein I don't see why you would need it. I have no facts on this though, so

Some insight with someone who has the proper knowledge would be appreciated.

They convert to glycogen which is more readily available as energy to your body than fat. To a certain degree, this can help you get better workouts or perform better in other physical activities in the short term. They also raise insulin levels and insulin being the anabolic hormone it is, helps in muscle growth. Ofcourse, both of these can be done by fats too or protein via gluconeogenesis, just not as efficiently.

Not any scientific reason for me just the fact that mine and most peoples training in the gym will suffer greatly with lower carbs without them so thats why you need them to build muscle.

Just out of curiosity how do people survive without carbs? I mean obviously they can, people have survived for thousands of years in places like Northern Canada and Greenland where there is almost no forms vegetation what so ever. But how do you get vitamins without any carb sources? I though If you don't get vitamin C you will get scurvy and die.

Green fibrous veggies have plenty of Vitamin C and are still generally allowed/eaten on low-carb diets.

Most animal products contain some Vitamin C. The longer they're cooked the more is lost, so minimally cooked meat provides the most.

helps restore glyco in the muscles

and if you'd take only protein after a workout, part of it wouldn't be used to build muscle, it would be used to fuel your ass.

u could accomplish it by taking vitamins.

need is a bit excessive (since carbs are unneeded for survival-but thats a whole different story). But an energy surplus is needed to build muscle, carbs r energy.

also, carbs are pretty efficient at giving us energy to work out, etc.
So then why can't you just rely on body fat for energy rather than eat carbs?

Because in the vast majority of cases (read almost all), you need an energy surplus to build muscle. The body doesn't have much of a reason to burn through body fat for energy when there's an energy surplus being created with the diet.

So body fat can't be used as the energy surplus? It just seems like carbs and fats would have the same potential energy as stored fat. Someone with really low body fat percentage might be in need of carbs and fat more so then someone who has some body fat to spare, like 30 pounds lets say.

Well, since people don't lose weight in an energy surplus, it doesn't seem likely that the body would burn stored energy. More efficient to just use the food.

So what your saying is that you can't gain muscle and burn fat at the same time?

Didn't say that, and I don't think I implied it. Steroids will allow that, some overfat noobs can do it, people coming off a layoff, and I suppose those who hit the genetic lottery. It's not the norm at all.

So you don't get enough protein and you do a lot of cardio does the body start burning muscle for fuel even before all the body fat is used up?

If you under eat and prioritize cardio (as in no resistance training?), is this the scenario you're laying out?

Resistance training is hugely important to make the body hang onto muscle.

As far as the body preferentially burning muscle instead of body fat (when there's no resistance training ), someone with a deeper understanding of physiology could probably explain the processes better. I'm not sure what the body would prefer to burn, but you'll be burning through both fat and muscle.

And ALL the body fat will never get burned.

How do you know how much protein to eat before a workout, lets say you get protein from whey powder, how much would be ideal for a shake. Theres about 24 grams in a scoop I heard you can only ingest about 10 grams an hour.

The average male your age will have enough with 25 gram protein.

If you're trying to gain muscle, eat 4-6 meals per day with sufficient protein.
