Frederick Douglass
"So long as my voice can be heard on this or the other side of the Atlantic, I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins."
Frantz Fanon
Another bad rear end philosopher who were involved in hostilities in Algeria
Walter Bonatti.
This guy did these things:
- became famous at 21 for being the first man to climb the Grand Capucin
- at the age of 24 was part of an italian expedition to climb the K2; two other climbers feared he'd be the first to arrive on the summit and sabotaged him, forcing him to spend a night sitting on an ice step at the height of 8100 meters, without any kind of protection besides his clothing; with him was a local Sherpa who lost various fingers and toes due to hybernation. Bonatti however didn't.
- received the French Legion d'Honneur for saving the lives of two fellow-climbers in a disaster in the Alps.
- completed the first solo winter ascent of the Matterhorn north face in 1965.
- retired from extreme alpinism at the age of 35. then he started exploring the world.
- went looking two separate times for the Amazon River springs.
- spent 30 days in Sumatra trying to hunt a tiger in the jungle, alone
- walked five days covering about 100 kilometers in the african savanna armed with nothing but a machete
- explored the Nyiragongo, the South Pole, New Guinea, Patagonia, the Australian Desert and a hundred other places during a time span of about 20 years.
- wrote 20 books or so
- is now 80 and could still kick your rear end.

The man rode a rocket sled, and was subjected to 46.2 times the force of gravity.... All so we would beat the drat Reds to the moon.

This is Richard Burton (not the Elizabeth Taylor variety), a famous explorer and writer. In the 1850s, he was one of the first, but not the first, Europeans to go to pilgrimage to Mecca. He went in disguise and learned Arabic and various customs. He even had himself circumcised to lower his chance of discovery. That's bad-rear end in itself. He was one of the first modern Europeans to extensively explore the interior of Africa. He was the one who brought the Kama Sutra to the West and as far as I know the first Western translation.
Plus, his translation of the Arabian Nights is the ONLY version to read. All 16 volumes of it. You yourself will become bad-rear end by reading it.▂▃▅▅▅▃▂ ▲◢◤▀◥◣▃ ▍◢◤
