    Protein powder=kidney stones

So I have past problems with taking protein powder as a supplement and it has caused me to get kidney stones. This time around I cut back to a protein shake every other day and only one, but I still produced a stone.
I am wondering if anyone has some good advice in how I can still get my protien intake.
    -Protein bars?
    -Isopure Protein Powder?

I was taking EAS Whey Protein powder.
They fail, and they alone, who have not striven.

You don't need protein shakes to get protein. If they are inded causing you to get kidney stones, then just get your needed protein from actual food. This is better for you anyway.

OP, did your doctor suggest you switch to a low protein diet?

If your doctor specifically stated that it's due to protein shakes and not a high protein diet, then simply plan ahead and cook and eat real meals as mentioned above.

I’m guessing here, but I'm thinking the protein powder causing the stones (only guessing). But since there is very little calcium to cause stones, it could be more of a food allergy with the whey protein (just guessing). Might want to have a food allergy test done just to make sure everything else is OK. I very much agree with bbrock293 on water intake, increasing it to a gallon, but that depends on body size (check BB for the correct amount). Good Luck

Drink more water. Lots of water. 9/10 times kidney stones are caused by not enough water. Especially days your working out, you need maybe 4-5 litres per day

He most likely repped you, but because of his low post/rep count it probably showed up as a blue or gray dot

drink more water, studies show that high intakes of salt can cause kidney stones

Are you eating something high in sodium/salt?

Other causes of kidney stones are sugars like fructose (which is in everything) cut back on sodas.

What kind of stone is it? Ca-oxalate? Cystine? Something else?

On a general note: increase your water intake, and eat citrate- and potassium rich fruits. These measures can counteract the formation of some stones.

As Dr.P asked, the type of stone determines the type of intervention/treatment. Usually though, protein supplement shouldnt cause an issue. Its more about solutes falling out of solution. Thats why more water can help

Potassium - avacado, banana, dates, figs, grapefruit, kiwi, mango, nectarine, orange, papaya, poms, prunes, raisins. Also milk (Ca isnt bad with stones all the time) and nuts are nice sources.
BUT figs, nuts, and kiwi are high in ocalates. So those are bad with stones.
