That's the thinking here. Look, if you are a law-abiding citizen, you should be able to own one. In the US, people can own guns, but aren't always allowed to carry them (not sure if some of you guys know that). Reason being, you keep it for home protection. As far as I'm concerned, someone breaks into your house, you should be able to shoot them. The law (sorta) reflects that.
In states with loose gun laws (Texas), there is a correspondingly low rate of crime. If you're some crackhead waltzing around Houston, Texas at night - you'll think twice before mugging someone if you even suspect their carrying.

I think handguns and rifles should be legalised in the UK, with the qualification that you must: -
-Attain a further education or equivalent (2 A levels, BTEC, NVQ level (?)) and attend a shortened gun-safety course.
Or
-Attend an extended gun safety course with a higher cost (say 1000).
But I don't agree with being able to own a small armoury of weapons. Not sure what a sensible limit would be.
No you can't. The British Olympic pistol team have to train off shore. Be it Isle of Man, Channel Islands or even Switzerland.

Guns dont make any place safer.... or less safe IMO its just different cultures. Americans it seems just love to pull out guns and shoot each other. Gun ownership there is probably a bit higher than NZ yet gun crime is lower in NZ.
Its just different cultures, if you banned guns in the US it would not decrease the murder rate they would just find different ways of killing each other. They lack respect for other peoples lives. look at the debates on healthcare or wars and all that ****. its all about the individual to them, everyone else is just nothing.
someone else dying means fuk all it seems._________________________________________

They have a higher number of total crimes per capita than the U.S.

Prior to 1987, the gun laws in the UK were as liberal if not more so than many US states. Semi-Auto rifles and burst fire guns were legal - Shotguns could be purchased without a license and handguns were still legal.
After Hungerford and Dunblane the govt clamped down big time on gun ownership - However, I still felt safer in 1987.

here is the cold hard fact:
% of firearm homicide per 100,000:
US: 3.97%
UK: 0.12%
AUS: 0.31%
fact of the matter is, either the US is a society with 3300% more murderous degenerate pathetic individuals, or guns DO kill people.
edit: and the only countrys that are worse than the US are Columbia, Guatemala, Paraguay and Zimbabwe.

Chances are the crime rate in the UK is largely alcohol induced, nation of alcoholics, and i bet the majority of alcohol fuelled crimes are from Scotland (no hate)
Our nation is full of drop outs and junkies and youths that are wannabe gangsters, thank fukk i did well in school.. There are people i went to school with who are constantly drunk 24/7, pretty sad really.☆☆☆υк яєω☆☆☆

Yep. It's all about society's makeup. Look at Switzerland's gun crime statistics. Virtually non-existant yet every household has a gun.
I don't fear law abiding citizens who own legal firearms. I fear the 17 year old gangbanger who got some knockoff AK that was smuggled in from Mexico.Strive for

My grandfather was a gunsmith that owned a gun shop, my mum and dad all my uncles and aunties grew up with all kinds of guns in the home living in the country shooting guns/hunting.
I enjoy shooting guns and dont see anything evil about that and dissapointed in the australian goverment and even more so the sheep that are the australian people(not all of them) whom pretty much just rolled over and let the goverment take our rights away/gave our rights away long before I was old enought to have any real say in it.
Havent done any shooting in awhile, but last time I went target shooting at the local club they had an open day ...... was a good day especially seeing people that have never shot a gun before having fun doing so.

Well, I'd say it's a societal thing. According to this site America is 5th in "most murders" with 16,204.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur-crime-murders
The same site says that the U.S. had 9,369 murders with firearms.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cr...-with-firearms
So take 16,204-9,369 and you get 6,835 which would still make us the #8 leading country in murders if EVERY FIREARM MURDER WAS EXCLUDED. Realistically though, many of those 9,369 murders by firearms would have still taken place, just by a different means. So yeah, I'd say that there is certainly more to it than just guns being the problem.Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

So much ignorance in this thread I think my head is going to explode.
No, never considered the amendment was wrong. Mainly due to the fact that right after the first amendment enumerating your right so speak out against your government...was the second amendment enumerating your right to provide a check and balance against a tyrannical government stripping you of your 1st amendment right.
If you want to get into a debate RE the constitution of the United States and/or the 2nd Amendment specifically...I'm your huckleberry.
Yes, i'm sure you enjoy a society where the only people with guns are criminals and cops. Good luck defending yourself with your pocket watch.
Yep. Negged.
In that case I can assume you are for more controls on free speech? Such as limiting the amount of words you can right to 10, and not allowing you to write angry things because they are considered "Assault Speeches"?MFC
RIP YGST

Read that again, then re-read it. It's circumstantial, you stab someone in the head - shoot them in the head...similar result. Stab someone in the arm - shoot them in the arm...similar result. You catch someone in the dome with a gun, knive, blunt object, even a knee and it could have traumatic results

In b4 10 ten pages of America bashing. This thread is pointless.

Tamorlane: No one really cares except for people like you. Wow he wore a blackface, guess what back in the day many people did that. It was a different time period. Not full of PC little betas like you that cry foul over every little thing.
