Creepy or Not? O/T
A co-worker came by my desk and saw me looking at post mortem pics on eBay. He started giving me a hard time as I looked through some of the photos that were listed. Anyway by the time we reached the last page he said something like "you know man those are actually pretty cool". I don't look at the ones of people that are laid out in caskets or on their beds but I do like the ones where the deceased is posed.
Just a brief background of what I know about them. Years ago when someone died people not having a lot of money would have their loved one posed and a picture taken as that was probably the only picture they would ever have of them. Some of the pics are pretty elaborate and have the deceased sitting upright with their loved ones or even standing.

My favorite was of a guy sitting in a chair with I assume his wife sitting on his lap. She was leaning to the side and looked obviously put out by the whole thing. I wish I would have bought it, I think it went for like $9.00. Some of the kid ones will go for hundreds of dollars.

Okay the pictures posted are bizarre even by my standards. This is more what I'm talking about. A lot of pictures I've seen only speculate whether or not the person is dead. I have learned that they try to determine it by unnatural posture, weird looking hands, eyes that aren't right or aren't looking where the group is looking(this one), and often on the standing ones you can see the base of the stand they are attached to.

I don't think it's creepy, actually, but I do think it's weird.
I also think it's interesting that you find it interesting.

I find it both wierd and creepy. However, I did a google search and looked at a few pics. The children's pictures are really sad. I guess that the Victorian age people did not get their pictures taken very often, so if a child died before a pic was taken they would still get one done. The current/modenr ones are wierd and for wierdos.

There was this lady whose male and female pet rabbits had just died. So she goes to a taxidermist to preserve them. The taxidermist asks, "would you like them mounted?". Her reply was, "no, just holding hands would be fine.".

It's kind of creepy but interesting as well.
I'd rather look at the old pics of loved ones when they were actually living...but if someone loved motorcycles and there were no pics with them on a motorcyle I could see doing that type of action. Now as for purchasing a pic of a dead person...thats too creepy man.

I feel the same way about open casket funerals, and I have been to a few of them. Just can't manage to shake it. I refuse to go up to the casket. I know that it is "to show your respect", however, that is not how I want to remember people.

Totally creepy. Totally. Open casket is one thing, and I understand why people once took pics (and still do in some countries), but I don't want to look at them. Ugh.
