In that "Most 2nd places" thread, a small debate started whether or not Jay was in fact one of the top 5 greatest bodybuilders ever. And so I am just curious to see how the IFBB section in general sees it. I'm not going to post after this or argue, I promise!
So after Lee Haney, Dorian Yates, Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is the next best bodybuilder of all time? Consider statistics and the competition they faced in their era.
1. Jay Cutler
- 4 Mr. Olympia titles
- 5 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
- 3 time Arnold Classic Champion
2. Frank Zane
- 3 Mr. Olympia titles
- 3 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
3. Kevin Levrone
- 4 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
- 2 time Arnold Classic Champion
4. Sergio Oliva
- 3 Mr. Olympia titles
- 2 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
5. Shawn Ray
- 2 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
- 1 time Arnold Classic Champion
6. Flex Wheeler
- 3 Mr. Olympia runner-ups
- 4 time Arnold Classic Champion
7. Franco Columbu
- 2 Mr. Olympia titles
- 3 Mr. Olympia runner-ups

I would put Levrone ahead of Jay, and also Sergio and Franco for historical reasons.
We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.
You can't stop us. You can't hold us back.

TBH, very good thread. Very good thread indeed.
I've never been a huge fan of Cutler's physique, so I'm trying to find someone else who can beat him, but considering just placings, Cutler would have to win. Physiques is closer and depends on what you like. The only others who I could see challenging him are Flex, Levrone, and Ray. Flex was good in the beginning, but his oiled up physique ruined him in the end. Levrone was good, but I felt like his back and legs were never spectacular. I'm tempted to say Shawn Ray, simply because I find his physique very aesthetic and AFAIK, he never showed up off. Perfect physique really, he was just was given the wrong height genetics lol.
Placings wise:Cutler
Physique wise: RayFrustrated at bodybuilding? Read my rant:

Nah. A great bodybuilder is a bodybuilder who can consistently come in conditioned. Jay's had a few showings where he has been noticeably off. No doubt his work ethic and perseverance is incredible but I wouldn't have him as the fifth greatest of all time.
Oh and for all the kiddies ^that's my opinion.
I vote for Shawn. He was always in shape, his presentation and posing was always to the highest standard and his physique was close to flawless.
Oh and for all the mongs ^that is also my opinion.A pattern in the chaos.

Never was a fan of Jay cutler, he has 1 solid win. the first was win by default since Ronnie was ****ed up (still looked great for how injured he was) the second one its arguable Victor got robbed, 2009 he totally deserved it and this last Olympia he barely beat some young bodybuilder.

It could be argued any way - but for personal choice I say Shawn Ray. Jay and Levrone have the most impressive resumes and if this group were to compete at the same time in each of their prime conditions respectively, you would think Jay would win? I dunno, what do you guys think...

Jay without a doubt.
Look at what Ronnie did to his competition. Wheeler, Ray, Levrone, El Sonbaty, and many more all quit during Ronnies reign. Was this just some sort of everyone-got-too-old? No, it was Ronnie completely demolishing their hopes of one day winning the Olympia. All of them just fell away and stopped competing and the ones left were certainly not aiming for first place. I remember a vid from just a couple of years back where Dexter Jackson says "Cutler, I'm coming for you. Not you Ronnie, you are safe.", he was actually aiming for 2nd place.
Now, why am I writing all this stuff about how Ronnie made great bodybuilders quit and others accept defeat? Well, because the ONLY guy who didn't quit chasing him was Cutler."that guy is like a damn unicorn" -Evan Centopani on Mamdouh Elsbiay
