Since Pokemon X and Y are due to release in less than 2 weeks, I thought it would be appropriate to create an official thread where we can keep all the information in one place.

Also, per blodger42's suggestion, this thread will also be for Pokemon X and Y owners to set up trades and battle with one another.

Full 3D gameplay

Unlike any other games in the main series, Pok�mon X and Y feature a completely three dimensional style of gameplay, and 3D modeled characters and creatures are used, rather than sprites like has always been done in the main series. Transportation

Players can now walk on an 8 directional grid, allowing diagonal movement, as opposed to the four way grid in previous games.

Pok�mon-Amie

Pok�mon-Amie is a new feature that allows the player to develop stronger bonds with their Pok�mon. It uses the touch screen to allow players to pet, feed, and play with Pok�mon currently on their team. Players may interact with their Pok�mon by petting or feeding them via the touchscreen or mimicking their movements using the camera.

Sky Battles

Sky Battles are battles which are restricted to Flying Pok�mon, although some Pok�mon with Levitate can enter. These airborne battles take place against Trainers standing far away, such as on cliffs.

Horde Encounters

It is now possible to encounter several wild Pok�mon at once. Up to five wild Pok�mon will battle against one of the player's Pok�mon. These battles offer a lot of experience. Some attacks, such as Rock Slide, are shown to hit all five of the opposing Pok�mon. However, after the player's turn, their Pok�mon must withstand attacks from all five of the opposing Pok�mon.

Super Training

Super Training is a new method of quickly and easily increasing a Pok�mon's EVs.

New type

One new type has been introduced, the Fairy type. This type was added to balance the Dragon type, which was previously only weak to itself and Ice. Fairy-type attacks are strong against Dragon, Fighting, and Dark types and resisted by Fire, Poison, and Steel types; Fairy-type Pok�mon are weak to Poison- and Steel-type attacks, resist Fighting-, Bug-, and Dark-type attacks, and are immune to Dragon-type attacks.

Trainer customization

The player will now be able to change their appearance in-game, allowing them to customize their characters by changing the hair color and the clothes worn.

Gyms

X and Y will feature Gyms like every other main series title. A Gym seen in the Nintendo Direct trailer features the female protagonist standing on a floating platform that transforms into a room. The first Gym Leader is Viola, who specializes in the Bug type. Along with her, three other Gym Leaders have been revealed.

New Pok�mon

Currently, 40 new Pok�mon are confirmed for X and Y. The total number of new Pok�mon that will be released is unknown at this point.
The first Pok�mon to be revealed were Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Xerneas, and Yveltal on January 8, 2013.

Mega Evolution

Different from forms, Mega Evolutions are available exclusively in battle and allow for a temporary boost in stats, in some cases changing their Abilities and types. This ability will not be available to all Pok�mon. The Pok�mon can transform if it is holding a Mega Stone in battle and meets another currently unannounced condition.

New Starters

Chespin

The Grass-type Pok�mon Chespin has a tough shell covering its head and back. Despite having a curious nature that tends to get it in trouble, Chespin keeps an optimistic outlook and doesn't worry about small details.

Species: Spiny Nut Pok�mon
Type: Grass
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 19.8 lbs.

Quilladin

When Chespin evolves into Quilladin, the hard spikes on its body grow even sturdier. Despite its prickly appearance, Quilladin is considered a gentle Pok�mon that avoids battle.

Quilladin uses its hardy shell to repel attacks and strike back with its pointed spines.

Ability: Overgrow

Fennekin

Searing heat blows from the ears of the Fire-type Pok�mon Fennekin. This Pok�mon loves to snack on twigs. Fennekin can be temperamental, but it tries to do its best for its Trainer.

Braixen

Once Fennekin evolves into Braixen, it no longer eats branches. But it still keeps a tree branch in its tail, which seems to calm the Pok�mon.

Braixen will occasionally wield the branch in battle and use friction to light it on fire.

Froakie

Mega Mewtwo X

Amaura

Amaura has the Refrigerate Ability, a new Ability in Pok�mon X and Pok�mon Y. It turns Normal-type moves into Ice-type moves.

Like Tyrunt, Amaura is believed to be one hundred million years old.

It's believed that Tyrunt is over one hundred million years old. The Pok�mon is known to be a bit selfish, and will throw a fit when it doesn't like something.

Tyrantrum

yeah ima have to stay off some of the major gaming sites/forums i frequent. i want my first playthrough to be a fresh experience like back when i was a kid playing the originals haha

I actually haven't used mulitiplayer functions on my 3DS in a while. But, I think if you hit the square smiley face (orange) on the top bar of your dashboard, it'll tell you your code.

EDIT: Actually not sure...I'm probably right.

why? Because they aren't identical to your precious little Generation 1 starters? The are a fox, frog and porcupine. Tell me whats so different/rageworthy about them in comparison to a lizard, turtle and dinosaur?

I've got 2 main options to construction my team through my starters

1 - Choose Chespin, acquire Squirtle then acquire Torchic from the distribution event to have an even spread.
2 - Choose Fennekin, acquire Charmander and Torchic for OP fire team. (Followed up with Pyroar, Talonflame and whatever other fire type comes out.)

But I will probably go with Fennekin, it has the best look so far IMO.
