    L-Arginine safe for a 16 yr old?

Would a lifter my age even need it?

is it safe? yes, you consume it every day and your body makes it
do you need it? its a conditionally essential amino acid so it depends

most people take it for the increased blood flow and pump. anyone who says that you shouldnt be taking an amino acid due to age is plain retarded
NO!!!! SUPPLEMENTS DO NOT INCLUDE BABIES!!!!

Don't take it by itself, take it with Citrulline and Glutamine. Glutamine is a precursor to Citrulline, which is a precursor to Arginine. I'm not sure how much of a difference it actually makes for lifting, but at least take it for your general heart health.

No lifter any age needs it, at least not for the purposes most people would take it, since it's been shown not to increase nitric oxide levels when taken orally.

And don't bother with glutamine either, since that was suggested.

    i dont completely agree

if arginine doesnt increase NO levels then i must get a pretty good placebo effect on pumps and vascularity from using it (yes i have noted a difference between using it and not using and no i didnt forget about carb consumption and glycogen when making my assertion)

besides, any blood test one could do in order to detect nitric oxide levels would mostly always show up as no more than baseline since nitric oxide has a half life of just a few seconds in the body anyway. this is why they can almost never prove it using in vivo testing, yet can prove it in vitro.

many people have noted enhanced blood flow and pumps from using supplemental arginine

I used it when I was 16 and I'm stick alive and kickin! I remember taking my NOW Arginine in my last class of the day. I think I took like 6 pills, whenever I took em, the two guys I sat next to thought it was funny to yell STEROIDS!!!

Better options out there though, are you really looking for a better pump during your workout? If so, citrulline malate is a much better option for pumps and performance. I see no reason why a 16 year old can't use supplements as long as they are responsible and think maturely. You must know that using it, it not going to make a drastic difference, and agree with that statement knowing that building muscle is a marathon, not a sprint.

Not true at all; there are many supplements he can utilize at that age no differently than most other ages. Whats important is that the OP is mature enough to understand what hes using, and what reasonable results are for the product within moderation of course. IMO, experience counts more as long as the product will not have damaging effects like pro-hormones. If he is 16, and has been working out for 3 years, I would encourage him to talk a nutrient partitioner and creatine product over a 25 year old who has been working out for 1 year.
