I just started P90X but the door frames are not far enough from the ceiling to fit the P90 type pull up bar. I thought about installing one inside the doorframe but that will stop me from doing the wide grip pulls.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

For the unaware. My post about doing P90x in a gym was a joke, as we had a member that posted about doing so. I guess not everyone saw that thread, although it was near "epic" status.
But I agree OP would be better off joining a gym (and ditching the P90x, as suggested by bmontgomery87).

install a bar or block of wood across the doorway (flush to the backside relative to P90 mounting requirements) and use that as the point of attachment that you hook the p90x j-hook onto
if you cut the wood (2x4 might do) carefully and use sturdy mounting brackets it could be removeable (leaving brackets in place)
something like this:

12-gauge not sheetmetal
maybe closed on three sides
maybe 2x6's

^^^^ This
P90X is better than nothing . . . but if you have a gym membership, get on a decent beginner's program and jump right in. Eat right, be consistent, lift heavy things, and you should be well on your way! Newbie gains can be highly motivating and surprising.

Ideas above about creating your own are good but for 'portability' I used to use these (still have them actually for when I travel)

Cheap, work fine and you get some added resistance by dragging your body up the door :-) I've used them on all kinds of cheap hotel doors and never caused any damage.

As FLEX said what is the goal.
I Started P90X almost a year ago and about to finish the 4th time around. When I started I was out of shape and overweight. P90X is great in the area of weight loss, low to medium strength and muscle gain and if you add the diet from beachbody which I never really followed you can see some great changes. You however WILL NOT become a power lifter from this program. I will say this and I know that some will agree and disagree but if this is how you get started to change the way you live it has some great motivation. I would also suggest going to a Doctor to make sure of any health problems. The Cardio (plyometrics) is for real. Stick to it and good luck on your journey, there are plenty of help on here.
