Ok, so one shot of alcohol is 60-70 calories, but when you take in a shot, some in breathed out when you exhale, and some is pissed out in your urine. Also, some enters the blood stream and then is metabolized in the liver, would this alcohol be used by the body for energy? So what percent of the alcohol consumed is actually burned by the body so it has to be accounted for in your daily calorie intake? Is it close enough to 100% that all this doesn't matter, or could you be losing 25% or so of the calories taken in through the processes mentioned above?

I read on here the other day (so it might be true!) that alcohol is actually your body's first priority for energy, not carbs!
It treats alcohol as something that is toxic and therefore it wants to use the alcohol as a first priority before using carbs for energy.
Instead of oats, I'm gonna change my pre-workout to 4 shots of scotch from now on!Instagram:

I really don't like this forum anymore, but I can clear this one up really fast.
Your pretty much right on.
Your body basically converts alcohol into acetate, which is then prioritized as an energy source. Acetate cannot be stored as energy in the body (i.e fat)
That being said, if you are burning acetate for energy, what are you NOT burning as efficiently?
However, chicken wings, potato chats and bar nuts are not converted to acetate....
I use this same reasoning to justify drinking heavily the last 3 out of 5 days =)
Hope that helps.Just livin' the dream...

I stopped counting alcohol, ate all my kcalories (3500-3800) 3 hours before going out, only drink spirit+sf mixer (morgans spiced ftw) and I've not seen any extra fat gain even though I drink a fair amount. Sure it may be slowing my gains, but I would rather enjoy myself than optimise my gains cos I won't compete. Feels good man
