All depends on your location IMO.

Ballys, Crunch, Gold's Gym, etc. typically pay the lowest, which I would say is about $7.25 - $25/session, depending on your experience/certification. Gyms that pay $25-$40+ are usually the upper echelon gyms and private sports clubs, such as Sports Club LA, and other small business private facilities. In most cases, you'll end up having to get your own clients no matter where you work. Very rarely do clubs solely supply clients for every trainer - at some point, you're going to need to hustle for clients.

The best gym for beginners to start training are the big chain gyms IMO - they offer you the inside experience of what training is like for most establishments: finding clients, using strategies and other selling techniques to bring them on board and retain them for as long as possible. The nature of the business may suck, but you'll gain invaluable experience.

Privately owned clubs/facilities may be more trainer-based. For example, the owner may have been a master trainer who's been in the business for decades, has a degree, and instills his approach into his business and employees. This makes it more oriented toward grooming the trainer, ensuring they know how to instruct, what to do, what not to do, etc..it has been from my experience that these kind of establishments pay most, and offer clients to the trainer from time to time.

These are just based on my experiences and what I've seen in the industry for the 5 years I've been in it.
