4 weeks to get into shape
My instructor contacted me this morning, offering me a kickboxing fight. If it was just a normal fight I'd say no, 4 weeks isn't much time to get into shape especially since I barely trained in december. But the event I would be fighting on has a European title fight as the main event, to be on a card like this is a big opportunity for my second ammy fight.
I'm going to wait till my first session back before I decide for sure, but I want to take it. If I do, I need a good training schedule, here's what I have planned and I would love to hear any criticisms.
Monday: Full body/strength training
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: Kickboxing
Thursday: Kickboxing
Friday: Full body/strength training
Saturday: Plyometrics, maybe some cardio
Sunday: Rest
I need to get into shape fast, but I also need to find the balance without over-training. Any help?

I agree, but I can't do that. There is a chance I can do extra kickboxing on sundays, and I'm gonna try and do that, but it won't be with the club I'm competing under (but hey, the could teach me something new).

First kickboxing session back last night. Fitness felt good, not as in shape as before the christmas break obviously, but I don't feel unfit. I reckon if I train hard this fight is winnable for me. So I'm going to take it.
A 2 hour session tonight. Unfortunately the first hour is being pushed as the more beginner class (for all the new years resolutioners) so there won't be any sparring. Hopefully the second hour will kick it up a notch.

Congratulations on getting such a great fight opportunity!
Four weeks should be enough time to get yourself back into pre-holidays shape (I know the feeling - three weeks of reduced training has me feeling like a lethargic blob!). I'd say do the Sunday session if you can, but don't go too overboard - keep some rest days too.
Good luck!

awesome news man! i dont think it will take too long to get your fitness levels back, I agree with doing some light plyos and such in between youre training days, also as far as cardio getting in some solid road work doesnt hurt, if you dont mind doing it its not so bad, if you want suggestions i would mix up your runs (short distances, long runs, sprints, track work; timing youre 1 mile for bench mark) that is how i have mixed up my road work over the last few months, if you cant run outside because of weather you can mix it up on a treadmill or whatever is best for you but anyways man good luck! seems we are in the same boat except in about one month ill be doing my first ammy boxing match and Ill be competing in a tournament!
good luck!
