Today I am sick for the 3rd time this month. I'm lifting heavy and eating really clean. I take a multi every other day - any ideas why the hell I am getting sick so often? It always seems to be after a workout. I hadn't lifted for a week because the gym was closed after christmas - I get back in there this week, and the following day, I'm feeling sick. Any ideas?? I'm seeing a doctor real soon anyway.

This has actually started happening to me, and noticed it started now that i am going to the gym instead of working out at home. With the gym equipment being handled by many people during the flu season its not surprising youre going to get sick. EVERYTIME I go to take a piss in my gym its not flushed and bright yellow, so that tells me people are being too lazy to wipe down the machines and wash their hands as well. How hard is to push down the handle, for real. So now Ive been extra clean and wiping down all the seats of the machine including the bars themselves and havent been sick since doing so.

No. Check your hygiene first. Like they said wash your hands. Do you shower after? There are soooo many possibilities. It's probably completely unrelated to the gym. Or then again maybe it is. You could be getting sick from contact with other people, anywhere (work, school , gym, etc). There are just too many possibilities so to attribute your sickness to weight lifting you better be able to back that up.

This. Just gettin ready to say the same thing. Bring like some hand sanitizer to the gym, use it before, and after to help kill off some of the germs. Also might help to wear weight lifting gloves.
Edit: One more thing, if you still have these immune system problems, try taking some vitamin CS&P Thread Crew

OK, got back from the doc. Few things he mentioned:
- Vitamin C does jack all to help colds... but it still necessary
- I eat too much protein and he reckons I'll damage my liver long term - and that protein shakes are a scam
- I workout too often and am overtraining - he reckons 1-2 days a week are ideal for adequate muscle recovery (srs??)
- I appear to have a sinus infection which never full healed, and with the recent humidity we've been having, was triggered by strenuous exercise. I'll be on antibiotics for the next 5 days, hopefully it'll clear things up. Having a blood test soon too.
Edit: Suprisingly, he didn't mention washing hands at all.

my personal guess is that due to the increased stress on your body your immune system is suffering. I'd eat more citrus fruits.

I havent been sick all year.
I wash my hands frequently (30 times a day?) and am basically a hardcore germaphobe though so yeah...
When you smash your body and challenge it to recover every day or two then theres gonna be a chance something falls through the cracks, so to speak. Minimise this by washing your hands, sleeping well, eating well, etc.
As far as the doctor is concerned. You know hes probably right - hes probably telling you what will make you live the longest. But many of us aim to get as big as possible and doing that while living the healthiest possible lifestyle isnt really possible. Being huge is a better quality of life though so you have to make some sacrifices right?
