    Celebs lie about measurements

Ok I know we have all seen Jessica Simpson in her "Mom Jeans" and she said she was a size 2! Bwahahahahahaha. ]

I guess a little white lie doesn't hurt now and then, but it gets me wondering how accurate the measurements of the pro's in our sport, or others we aspire to look like are. I have seen interviews with models stating their photos are always touched up before they hit the magazines, or the web. I'm sure the same goes for the guys in the body building magazines. I wonder what real world measurements are so we can have an honest gauge to measure our progress, and set out goals.

Take for example Eugene Sandow's measurements:
    At age 35 (1902)

    height: 5'9 1/4"
    weight: 202 lbs.
    neck: 18"
    chest: 48"
    biceps: 18 1/2"
    forearm: 16 1/2"
    wrist: 7 1/2"
    waist: 30"
    hips: 42"
    thigh: 26"
    knee: 14"
    calf: 18"
    ankle: 8 1/2"

Were these inflated numbers to draw in paying customers?
He certainly does not look like he has a 48" chest, nor 18 1/2" arms

What are your experiences after having met the pros in real life. Do you think they live up to the stated measurements?
When you think of the long and gloomy history of man, you will find more hideous crimes have been committed in the name of obedience than have ever been committed in the name of rebellion. –C.P. Snow, Science and Government

Sometimes when no one's home I enjoy seperating m&m's into color groups and pretending they're little villages of people with their own economic and social problems, and then I try to fix them through free trade agreements and other diplomatic measures! - NoPainNoGain

I don't think you can compare your measurements/weight/clothing size with anyone else's because everyone's body is different. I was 105 lbs in my 20's (at 5'5"), however the smallest size I got down to was a 6. I couldn't get any skinnier, and that was my size. That's just how I'm built so why am I going to worry about that number? I will never be a 2 or a 4 and considering how I looked as a 6 I wouldn't wanna be. Some size 2 and 4 women look fabulous but I would look like a corpse.

You can only compare those numbers to your own numbers in the past, IMO. Anything else will be completely pointless.
I just like to smile, smiling's my favorite.

It really doesn't matter. When you step on stage, I don't think you get any bonus points for having written stats that are greater than your competition. It's like the stats on here. Person says they can bench 350lb's. That's super, but do you look like it? It is a visual competetion.

Arnold was notorious for his outrageous claims about his height:

here he is meeting Reg Park

    walking with George Bush

and in the lineup at the 1980 Olympia:

But seriously, I think doing curls for max weight (even with good form) is risky anyway. The bicep is an easily injured muscle (relatively speaking), and people doing things like this are just asking for a bicep tear.
