Cheapest way to heat a car with no heater? (srs)

I gotta make a 3 hour trip tomorrow in my car with no heater. The 12 Volt heaters that you plug in to you lighter are complete ****. I don't need it to heat my whole car, I'm fine just layering up, but I do need something that will defrost my windshield and preferably the other windows at least a little bit.

The fan blows but no heat. I think its the heater core, which is a huge job to do by yourself. I do plan on getting it fixed over winter break, but I need to get home (which is my roadtrip tomorrow) and have my dads friend fix it.

They make a spray for the OUTSIDE of your windows that will keep the ice off. Just clean your windows real well then spray the stuff.

If you're stupid enough to spray it on the inside of your window you will pass out and crash your car.

    good luck.

If it's the heater core that means you're losing coolant. Not a good idea to try a 3 hour drive low/losing coolant. If your coolant isn't low it's probably just a thermostat. Easy fix on most cars and cheaper then buying a heater. What year, make and model?

Easy way to check on most cars is run the engine until it warms up, if the gauge doesn't go much above cold or the heater hoses don't get hot then you have a bad thermostat. If it is a leaky heater core you should be able to just keep adding coolant to keep the heat going until you get home. As long as the coolant is full you will still have heat even if it's leaking. If it's leaking to fast to keep the heat going for a while then you aren't going to make it any way.

I got an older pickup and the heater coil went out on it, I just use a heated blanket that plugs into the lighter. Seriously works amazingly well. Heats up in seconds.

I've changed the thermostat and it's still not heating up, and I also checked the old one in boiling water and it still opens up, so it's not that.

Is it possible that the heater core is clogged? A thermometer showed the water going into the firewall area was hot, and the tube coming out was cold. And on that same line of thought, I flushed my radiator with one of those kits, and that did nothing. I don't think I'm losing coolant too fast and I've made this drive a couple times in warmer weather without the car ever over heating.

well, you can put newspaper overthe windsheild so that it wont get **** on it. then take the newspaper off b4 the drive... also, how can hte heater break? its probably the blower motor. the heat from the engine is what the heat in the car is. so check the fuses/realys. its probably a simple fix...

    do the fans work?

Yes the fans work.. The heat from the engine just isnt getting there. I read that it could be a vacuum line thats behind my glove box, but I pulled that off and couldn't find anything but wires. Any car guys know anything about that? I don't even know what a vacuum line looks like

Once you get the engine warmed up
Enough, it will resonate enough heat and the can will warm up
