Two Years, Three Months. A Story of the World, and One Woman.

Part One:


Before I start, this is going to be a very long post. So if you don’t want to read it, don’t. It's the story of the woman I was going to marry, and how we came to an end. I'll tell it as best I remember.

Just over 2 years and 3 months ago, I met a girl. A great girl, on all accounts. We were introduced by a mutual friend who worked at my pool hall and things actually didn’t work at first. She didn’t care for me the first time she met me, there in the pool hall. So I went back up to VA, promising to come back on leave to see my friends. I took the train down to Raleigh, and who was there to pick me up? Her. And that’s how it started. Something about her changed, me too. We were like highschoolers again. We flirted the entire drive to Jacksonville, and went to our first dinner that night. I was a few months out of a relationship where my ex-fianc�e had cheated on me on deployment and wasn’t looking for much. But something about her beautiful eyes took my guard down. They are green/gray depending on only God knows what, with a ring of gold around the iris. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I was taken. I respected her, even her wishes not to have sex that night. Our first time having sex a week later was amazing, probably one of my fondest memories. My car broke down on the way to see her, but it was worth it. She drove an hour and a half to come get me. We had a great 2 weeks together before I had to go back for schooling, and she asked to be my GF one night while we were waiting in line behind a wildebeest in McDonald's. I agreed.

My school was 6 weeks long, and then I was to leave the States for a period of 3 years.

But it didn’t matter. I had a great girl by my side. She would drive 3hrs to see me for the weekend, and then drive 3hrs back to where she lived. I lived for those weekends. Her sex drive was insatiable, and I was happy. We had sex in her car, in rental vans, cars, a movie theater parking lot, and hotels all over NC/VA/DC. But time waits for no man, not even me. I was to be sent to Kathmandu, Nepal and given 4 days off before I had to leave. Every waking minute of it was spent with her. We drove down to Raleigh (I rented a car to drive down) and we had a terrific weekend. Sex, smiles and laughter. My total relationship with her never attained the level of happiness as those for days did. I didn't care. We went dancing, she loves to dance and we stayed at hotels because she lived with her uncle. We stayed up late, we blew off engagements, we were inseperable. But alas, all good things must end. I had to return to Quantico to recieve my orders. It was the last time I would see Raleigh for over two years. I was relieved to find out that I wasn't leaving until the following Thursday, which gave us one more weekend. And so she came up to see me, and wish me goodbye. She had wrecked her VW Golf the week before while driving home too late at night from VA, so she ha to rent a car. The weekend started off as always, with us hugging for quite some time and enjoying each other's company. I decided to take us to DC, and see the Capitol, as I had never been. It was an experience, the food, the museums, the gardens, the traffic. It was all second to me being around her. We ate at Ruth Chris steak house that night, to a bill of $133.16 with tip, one of my more expensive dinners ever. I was happy, she glowed like a fire burning inside a lantern. We spent the rest of the night driving back and making love in another hotel, then slept naked like animals. My arms being around her was like electricity, and I'm still addicted to it. And on Sunday morning, she had to go. Our last meal was at Denny's like every Sunday. But this was different. Not the old man across from us smoking, or the hideous waitress, but us. It was different, and we both knew it. I didn't want to leave her, and she didn't want to go. It had to be this way. We both promised to stay faithful to each other until we met again, and I made a solemn promise to return to her at the end of three years.

Watching her drive away with tears in her eyes ripped open a part of me that I though had died. We talked the whole way back to Raleigh. She cried the entire drive, on the phone with me. So it goes. I spent every minute not packing or standing post talking to her or texting. Texts, I stil have to this day. I texted her up until Sprint shut my phone off. And then I called her, not caring what it would cost. Up until I went to Dulles International. Then I called her from a payphone, charged to my credit card just wanting to her voice one more time.

And then I boarded my plane, bound for the highest point in the world.

Part 2: Nepal
