    Why do boxers/strikers have flatter chest?

    noticed that gsp and other fights have quite a flat chest compared to bodybuilders.

    Bruce Lee didn't want to build a big, bodybuilder type of chest for the simple reason that it wasn't practical in his line of work. In fact, he considered and overly developed chest to be an obstacle that could prevent an individual from covering up properly if a blow shuld be suddenly shot at ones midsection. But Lee recognised the importance of a strong chest. He realised that even to move your hand across your midline to block a strike requires a contraction of the pectrals, or chest muscles. The pectorals are involved in any type of punching movement, such as uppercuts, hooks, and crosses, for their primary function is to draw the arm from an outstreched position toward the centreline of the body.

    Because a big/strong chest isn't really that big of a benefit in MMA. Yeah, it helps. But the power in a punch comes from the lower body and core. In a clinch, your core is the main player, and your lower body plays a part too... the most upper body going on in a clinch is pummeling tbh. Then, on the ground, if you are using your chest muscle strenuously for any reason, you deserve the armbar or sweep that is coming.

    Actually, the stance in MMA is a lot more square compared to boxing. You can't point off to much or you'll just get your lead leg kicked into numbness and oblivion.

    Muscular endurance is a much greater asset in MMA then just raw volume of strength. The lift numbers on fighters really aren't that telling of their success tbh, though obviously a trained fighter won't have sissy lifts. A fighter's vertical, deadlift, and squad would be more telling of his physicality as a fighter imo.
