i have never power cleaned before
and the FAQ here says to not power clean
and the SS book says i can sub with 3 sets of body weight pulls till failure. and 3x10 back extensions.
but people seem to emphasize the power clean sooo much
but i am wondering if i should start them, my goal is to get big. not get explosive for the NFL.
if they workout the traps so good i can still do a BB. shrug and i still have the deadlift in SS.
okay i won't say im doing ss. but im adding **** to it. only 3 things so far tho. incline. weighted dips and curls.
and im really wondering if i should be power cleaning. i don't see anybody power cleaning anymore. . . unless there on a football team.

Do power clean if you want or abandon it.
I have never figured out why the clean and the row are the interchangeable exercises in SS when power cleans are a leg/hip exercise and rows are a back exercise.
I personally don't have any use for the exercise. I marvel when I see someone doing a good/correct full or power clean in the gym, but you won't see me doing it.
Most of the SS zealots on here advocate it, because it is more hardcore to do a clean than a bent over row and since newbies to lifting jsut starting out on SS are the most bad ass person you can ever come across, it makes sense they choose it.-

I don't see how cleans and bent over rows or chins can be referred to as substitutes for each other as they work quite different muscles.
I'd personally say go for power cleans. They're a fun full body movement that can help you increase some of your athletic abilities (though they aren't an end all magic potion solution). They do take some while to learn though.Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

sorry forget i said barbell rows
i go with the wide grip pull up 3 sets till failure if can do more than 15 reps i use weights
Also i know the power clean is a multi joint exercersice that does everything. People seem to say mostly traps, hips, hams. But as above poster said i am not looking for athletic ability. i just want to get bigger.
but seems like the answers so far are. "fun" " do it if you want" and "just my 2 cent"
guess ill go with the SS routine with the pull ups than
if i feel like my traps aren't getting worked enough i can always do rack pulls or bb shurgs. . .
and as for my hips they get worked in DL and Squat??? and hammies in the DL i can feel those mofos getting ripped.

dl 1x5 265 used to be 185
