    Increase consumption of calories to gain weight to lift heavier to gain muscle.
    Followed by a cut to lose any fat gained durIng the bulking process.

    All solid definitions. Once you gain some experience lifting it becomes more beneficial to start doing cycles of bulking and cutting. First you bulk, and eat over maintenance in order to gain weight (which includes muscle mass and fat). Then, you cut to lose weight (hopefully mostly fat while preserving as much LBM as possible).
