    how / when to bulk.....

    Hey guys,

my plan was to finish cutting at the end of summer (mid feb) and start on my bulk.
I'm no where near being ripped atm and i've always wanted a six pack but would it be better for me to start bulking now?

My goal is to get to a lean (10-12% BF) 170-175 pounds by dec 2011
Yet the thing is im going to start to train for a 50km run mid Feb as well and know that if i don't consume a dickload of calories it is going to be hard for me to gain with all the cardio i will be doing. So i was thinking bulk again now for a month or so, then cut again once i start training, or continue to cut for summer and bulk mid feb.

    TLDR:

will running 50+km a week for a couple of months be hugely detrimental to my bulking phase and will I be spinning in circles for the duration? I could start a 'clean bulk' now but i'd prefer to continue to cut to be as lean as i can be late jan early feb?

    TLDR:

    BF estimates are welcome

    Front Biceps = 1st dec
    14-12-2010 = yesterday

ps. will a tan make me look leaner... cos I am one pasty mutha ****a

whats ur weight now ? .. i say lose 5lbs and then concentrate on eating more and reduce cardio

the rpoblem with bulking is that .. it has more to do with genetics than diet or routine

the reason why many people gain fat more fat on the abdomen and love handles than other despite of following a very clean diet, good training and a slight increaise of calorics is not because they dun goofed is because of genetics .. they just happen to have more fat cells on the abdomen and love handles
in order to gain muscle you have to eat more calories but you will also gain some fat
if u have more fat cells on your midsection than most people, you will add fat fast on your abdomen when your bulking

the reason why some skinny guys go on a bulk and gain little to no fat on the abdomen is because they have very little fat cells on their abdomen .. is not metabolism is genetics .. amount of fat cells

Running 50+ km a week will be fine, regardless of bulk/cut. The tricky part about running that much on a bulk is that you'll need to make sure and compensate for the calories burned pounding pavement. On a cut, it's nothing but helpful.

righto, cheers for that TBH i don't really care about the fat gain during winter, as i'm going to be playing rugby etc.. then come end of next year i'll cut again

    ahh k thanks for that.
That brings up another question.. if I run 50+km a week will i need to eat more calories to stay within a 500ish deficit.

eg, atm i'm lazy and only running around 10km a week with a calorie intake of about 1800-2200 or so..

if i were to run more should I stay at 2000ish calories or bump up to say 2500-3000? (1 mile = 100 cals... therefore an extra 2400 burnt from cardio...

I never did. My BMR is 1650. I ate 1500-1800 kcals a day on non-cheats regardless of level of activity.

My longest runs were over 10 miles a pop, average closer to 4-5 miles ... at least 4-5 nights a week.
