This is what my friend thinks, NOT me. We were texting today and here's how the conversation goes:
Me: Sweet potatoes are the bomb!
Him: Eh..
Me: Eh.?! You've lost your mind! lol
Him: I don't really care for sweet potatoes
Me: Well they don't care for you!
Him: Good!
Me: Dont be jealous, they are now a staple of my diet
Him: Haha, so much for getting shredded. lol
Me: And what makes you think that?
Him: Potatoes ain't good for ya. Only extra garbage
Me: Oh, ok...
Him: Oh. I'm wrong?
Me: No comment lol
Him: Ok, explain to me why doctors are wrong and google is right...lol
Me: What doctor told you sweet potatoes are bad for u? I suppose I could see an argument for white potatoes...
Him: Any doctor will agree that there is no reason for a human to need to eat a potato. They don't give you anything that can't be found in other foods with less/no starch.
Him: And they're basically all carbs. My cousin's diet is a perfect example... All he eats is meat and veggies. He doesn't eat anything with a significant amount of carbs like bread, potatoes, etc... And his diet works really well. Gives him everything he needs to go to work and do a hardcore workout for an hour a day. It's an expensive diet tho, hard to fill up without carbs.
I don't know how to reply to this, without going off on him. I'd like you're input please!

Your friend is an idiot.
If your on a keto type diet. Then yes.. sweet potato's are "bad" for your DIET. Unless your doing a TKD/CKD and using it as a refeed/pwo meal.
But your friend is making it seem like sweet potato's in general are bad for you, which is not the case at all.The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and hear all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds. ~Henry Rollins

Corner him and proceed to beat him half to death with a sweet potato. If a guy's gonna think like that, may as well give him a reason to be afraid of them...

The Truth Behind 5 Food Myths
By: Alan Aragon, M.S.
Sweet Potatoes are Better
Myth: "Sweet potatoes are better for you than white potatoes."
The origin: Because most Americans eat the highly processed version of the white potato—for instance, french fries and potato chips—consumption of this root vegetable has been linked to obesity and an increased diabetes risk. Meanwhile, sweet potatoes, which are typically eaten whole, have been celebrated for being rich in nutrients and also having a lower glycemic index than their white brethren.
What science really shows: White potatoes and sweet potatoes have complementary nutritional differences; one isn't necessarily better than the other. For instance, sweet potatoes have more fiber and vitamin A, but white potatoes are higher in essential minerals, such as iron, magnesium, and potassium. As for the glycemic index, sweet potatoes are lower on the scale, but baked white potatoes typically aren't eaten without cheese, sour cream, or butter. These toppings all contain fat, which lowers the glycemic index of a meal.
The bottom line: The form in which you consume a potato—for instance, a whole baked potato versus a processed potato that's used to make chips—is more important than the type of spud.Nutrition and Supp Science FAQ:
