    Best shoes to squat/deadlift in

So I normally just train in cross trainers but I'm looking for something more flat soled for deadlifts and squats. I was wondering if anyone here uses a specific shoe for such lifts and if you also have bad experiences with any certain shoes. I figured the people in this section know what they are doing in the gym so they would know the right shoes too

I've seen the chuck taylors used a lot. Didn't know if they were as good as say wrestling shoes, boots, those barefoot looking shoes that Pak-man uses, etc. Just looking for opinions on all the types out there.

Best footwear IMO would be chucks or barefoot.

Also some personal experience, but I won't impose that onto you. But if you ask, I'll answer :)

I switched to wrestling shoes for squats and deadlifts. I like the way they provide some support without the give of running/cross trainer shoes. I really prefer them for most other days as well. They give me a good firm base to push off and drive out of the whole, and they do not let you role on your toes like running shoes because they are flat.

I would like to try the lifters shoes like APT and others sell. The rise in the heel helps those who are less flexible to go deeper which wrestling shoes don't have. I am not the most flexible in squatting as my hips are tight and this would probably help out.

The one thing I found by a lot of people when searching was that they found chuck taylors to still feel squishy, but better than regular shoes. Depends on what you really want. Just decide flat like wrestling shoes or with a slight heel raise depending on flexibility. The heel raise does give more power out of the whole too....

Tommy why do you like the Vibram so well and what have you used in the past? I have thought about them, but was afraid that they would slip too much. They just seem so weird to me.

Some of these shoes listed are on the 'expensive' side. Is it really necessary to spend alot of money on shoes to lift in? I mean barefoot would be ideal but since most gyms frown upon that wouldnt you just want something as flat and non cushioned as possible? The only shoes that I shell out alot of money for are my running shoes which are Brooks and if any one cares they are by far the most awesome running shoe Ive ever owned and Im on my second pair and will be hard pressed to ever buy anything else

op look for otomix and/or some olympic lifter shoes. those are the best....but any shoe that provides ankle stability and is sturdy works fine. flat soled are not necc the best

Thanks! Since its highly unlikely I will ever be lifting anything near 225lbs I should be good. I can PUSH more than that with my legs but not in a upright position

Hopefully I'll make it to 6% by this winter so I can finally bulk for the rest of my life.

I have a pair of vibrams but honestly, any time I step in to the squat rack, my shoes come off. Socks only.
    Same goes for deads.

When I was preping for my show in November, I flew out toe Nashville for 5 weeks or so to train at my brother-in-laws gym. No shirt, no shoes, no problems.. I loved it.
Coming back and training here in a public gym kind of sucked... Had to keep my shirt on..

Nothing like training with the back garage door open and the music full tilt, hlaf naked...

I use lonsdale boxing shoes, thin sole/high top and with minimal cushioning on sole so you feel really in touch with the ground when doing heavy singles. also great ankle support aswell.
