Why do people vote republican? Aren't they looking out for the rich and big business? And if my calculations are correct, most of America isn't rich.
Maybe I was taught wrong, so aware me.

because I do not want to really tax the rich as much as I want all the damn social programs to be shut down.
Medicare
Medicade
Social Security
Welfare
stop all of them, they are not working, do not just be like well we can fix them, we need to have them fail and start over, just like we should have done with the damn banks and auto makers. businesses should fail if they are ****ing up, and I think the same rule should apply to social programs.
Then don't just tax the rich more, tax everyone across the board more. This country pays less then others and no wonder we are ****ed.Last edited by huckknows; 12-09-2010 at 10:26 AM. Reason: added welfare, explained why i want to stop them

its a myth that voting republican means looking out for the rich.
in all honesty, voting conservative is looking out for all.
rich get to keep more money but so does the middle class (or anyone who pays taxes)
all this means is that conservatism is about getting govt out of the way so american people and business can continue to take risks with their money and to try and grow and expand. We are all a sum total of our experiences. As you grow and gain more experiences, those new experiences help shape and refine your perspective.

I was talking to a friend's little girl, and she said she wanted to be
President some day.
Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked
her,
'If you were to be the President, what's the first thing you would do?'
She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'
'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until
you're President to do that.
You can come over to my house and mow the grass, pull weeds, and sweep my
yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store
where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use
toward food or a new house.'
She thought that over for a few seconds, 'cause she's only 6.
And while her Mom glared at me, the little girl looked me straight in the
eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work,
and you can just pay him the $50?'
And I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'

It really doesn't have to do with the rich. It has to do, atleast for me, with two things.
1) Darwinism - A person should have to work for their share of the crop. Socialism and Communism fail because they do not incentivize people to work hard. This is the problem with welfare right now. While there are people who actually legitimately need it - there are others who smoke cracks all day and essentially steal your tax dollars.
2) Smaller Government - We've already seen what a huge government is capable of. They now want to limit our internet freedom, they want to tax you extra for purchasing things with sugar in them, they can view your credit card purchases and location with absolutely no warrant. They are allowed to place tracking devices on your car in your driveway because it is not technically your home. Instead of the billions upon billions of dollars being spent on the people, much of it got spent SECRETLY on institutions not even in our country. Republicans, traditionally, give tax breaks to everyone. Democrats, traditionally, raise taxes or stop the tax breaks. I would rather pay less taxes that don't even go to my country anyway.
As it stands now, both parties, our entire government, and I would go as far as to say the entire global politico is so far corrupt and gone that I would not suggest any being better than the other. In the end, you're going to vote for whom you identify with the most. That's alright, its perfectly okay. Ours votes don't even count for anything anyway.

I'm gonna LOL when you are 80 years old and dying because we don't have SS or Medicare.
Why the fuk would you want to get rid of SS or Medicare? If you are going to use that logic, "well you should have set aside a million dollars in your life time so you don't need SS", I'm gonna have to call you a moron. Considering most nursuing homes cost 5k+ a month and the good ones are 10k+, lets see how long your money lasts you.| ♫Audiophile♫ | To ∞ & → | The Ohio State University Alumni |

It seems like the democrats in your country now just want more government oversight and a bigger more expensive government, seems like everyday theres another government agency being created wasting millions of your taxpayers money.....No wonder you guys are is such bad finanical trouble. I guess Obama forgets you have to pay back what you borrow.
Republicans are also a messed up choice for you guys because they protect the rich but the rich are who create the businesses and keep the economy going and creating jobs. I think with a Republican controlled House and a Democratic President it might bring something useful just like what happened with Bill Clinton when you guys actually had a surplus of money.

ss should be privatized. cant we be responsible enough to set aside money for that? what happened to people being able to take care of themselves? personal responsibility??
or have we effectively mashed the skulls of the majority of people to think that they need the gov't to do it for them?We are all a sum total of our experiences. As you grow and gain more experiences, those new experiences help shape and refine your perspective.

Go ahead and laugh all you want. The truth of the matter is we live longer. So we have to work longer. Everyone should be setting aside 25% of their income to save for retirement. Instead people don't and then retire and live longer then any other generation before with no savings and expect to get paid by everyone else. It is hurting the country.
PM me, and we can email back and forth and I will let you know exactly how I plan on being fine until 80 while still retiring before 60. It is called money management and not trying to live above your means, and the entire reason we are in a housing crisis is because people wanted the "american dream" big house, 3 cars, and they could not afford it, so they made bad decisions and hoped for the best.234 years of badassedry...

Um, republicans are also for big government.. Did you not see what happened under Reagan and Bush? Even when they controlled the house, senate, and white house all at the same time, they didn't those social programs. They didn't end any of them actually. In fact, they didn't even reduce spending. They in fact increased spending. And, I believe, actually increased entitlement spending or at least social security spending.

Thats all ****en fine and good the problem with your logic is this:
I have already paid into SS, I want my share back when I retire, therefore I'm not setting aside as much of my own money.
If you kill SS tomorrow, a lot of 60+ year olds are gonna be real pissed off they aren't getting the money they put into the damn system. You can't get rid of something that people were TOLD IS GONNA BE THERE 50 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY STARTED WORKING.
The only way your system would work is if SS was phased out over the next 50+ years, where current people entering the work force would understand that there wont be anything but your own money when you turn 65.| ♫Audiophile♫ | To ∞ & → | The Ohio State University Alumni |
