Surgery for my elbow tendinitis at 18 years old
I am 18 years old. I have been going to a Orthopedic for the past 4 months for my elbow tendinitis. Next step is surgery (I dont want). He advised maybe checking out a Sports Orthopedic, which is an hour away...which I dont care. He also said they have more things to deal with Sport injuries.
What can a Sports Orthopedic do? Does he have more options, injection wise? My orthopedic only has cortisone, which is not ideal for my condition.
Its STILL SWOLLEN around the back/around the elbow. The pain has gone down, but swelling is still there. The tricep tendon is less noticable on my tendinitis elbow. When I first got tendinitis I couldnt do a pushup. 4 months later I can do tricep pushdown half the weight I use to do.
I still CANT do any press exercises. The only tricep exercises that are painfree are lightweight pushbacks/pushdowns
tried:
advil
aleve
Voltaren
Pennsaid
ICE
No gym for 3 months
15 sessions of Physical Therapy
MRI
XRAY
appreciate any advice.

My mesomorph has awakened
Have you had an MRI done on the elbow? If so what did it show?

I feel like theres fluid build up and I should get it drained. I was suprised when MRI came back normal. Its swollen back tip of elbow below tricep. Physical Therapist noticed the tendon is less noticeable cause of the swelling.
Is this fluid? MRI and Orthopedic say NO. I think YES. unless swelling suppose to go on for a year? I mean I dont aggravate it and havent been for 4 months...

If the MRI came back normal, what is the reason for surgery?

MRI was one of the first step. did it a few months ago. Treated it, rested it, Went to Physical Therapy. Still not healed. He explained that there isnt anything else HE can do besides surgery. He went into detail and explained the surgery, but it was all too scientific to remember.
He said for 95/100 people, it worked and they were pain-free. Either way, im not doing surgery

May as well check out the sports dr then. Not really sure what the difference in treatments would be, but maybe he'll come up with something if you give it a chance.

alright guys, so 4 months later...pain has gone away, but it still flares up during workout. Becomes puffy. Both elbows. WTF. Orthopedic basically said "im stupid go see a sports doctor". Should I go see a sports doctor just for the flaring? I want to because I dont want it to become swollen during workouts.
MRI showed no fluid, I think I wanna get another MRI...

I always try to help people like you because I've been through the same situation with both my elbows. Talk to a physical therapist and tell them you think you might have tendinosis. This is not to be confused with tendinitis. Tendinosis is much harder to heal and takes a lot of rest, PT, and education about the condition to recover from it.
For now, it would be wise to take at least a month off if you do decide you have tendinosis and not tendinitis. Tendinitis should go away within two weeks maximum bro.

Hey man. I had a similar problem. The pain didn't go for very very long time. Doctors would just tell me to rest and take pain killers which had no effect at all.
Then I read this:

I can not recommend the above article highly enough. It sorted my problem in no time flat. After months of resting with no results I followed the advice from the article and well now I'm fine
Good luck.

Yeah, I've considered the PRP injection but just got some serapin injections instead. Look into the serapin first as the PRP is rather new and the efficacy of it is still questionable.

Hi ive come here to the site looking for information regarding "tennis elbow" as i might have this condition myself, i was getting a bad pain in my elbow everytime i lifted anything after 2 weeks i went to see the Doc's they said 1month of Iberprofin (anti inflamatry), then i went back and they said try 1 full month of a stronger anti inflamatry called Neoproxyn then after 1 month and 3rd doctor later i was refered to a Physio who said its either Tendonitis (tennis elbow) or a Torn Bicep Ligament
now 3 months later of the pain getting worse (no swelling tho) and non lifting (killer!!!) they have given me the most simplest of excersizes and its easing up a LOT!! waking up in agony has not happened at all this past week
what im doing atm, is
1.Raising my bad arm up with my other hand as in a unweighted bicep curl then very slowly lowering it back down (reason for not just lifting it is to raise it up without using the muscles going upwards) this feels the most daft excersize but it works
2.next is just to find the pain point in the elbow and rub it for 5mins to stimulate the blood flow in this area
3. arm flat on desk/table and push your palm backwards from the top of the finger tips (as in beding your hand backwards) hold for 10sec then repeat
4. is putting my forearm flat on a desk with my hand/wrist off the edge then raising it up and down my physio said as this gets easier use a bottle of water when raising the hand up,
guys you might know all of this already im just giving what i currently know, my physio has told me not to lift anything at all no pushups, dips, pretty much nothing and its a nightmare ive put loads of weight on but having a usless left arm is even worse atm
good luck guys hope your arms all heal up

Its still swollen, at PT she freed up my tricep since it was tender.
Would a cortisone shot be the solution? I dont have anymore pain, but still have alot of inflammation
