Honestly now that I can drink Ren fairs are fun. I get beer the second I walk in at 9am and drink til I run out of money or pass out on a picnic table in the afternoon. Both have happened.
Austin was talking about a halloween night where I wore that kilt down town, got hammered, and almost beat up some guy so I could have his fake sword. It was a great night.

It seems a lot of PL/SM are nerds. If you go into the PLfam thread you could have great video game or comic convo's.
When Austin and I get together drinking and strongman always happen. He drove 2 hrs to pick me up and we both drove another hour to our first strongman training without ever meeting IRL before. Austin is a solid friend.

Its because a lot of nerd stuff is fun. Strong people in general aren't as afraid to do what they truly like because of possible ridicule
Sir douchebag "wow you're a nerd"

Pretty much that. I fought MMA in highschool and was in Talented and gifted classes. People would walk by and laugh at the "nerds", see me sitting there, and leave quietly. Funny as hell.

True that. I think the term "nerd" applies to someone who has intense interests in something other than pop culture and f*cking by people who have no other interests outside of pop culture and f*cking. Since us lifters have chosen to pursue an activity as absorbing as lifting, it only makes sense that we also have other deep-seated interests in esoteric areas.

It is getting better by the week. Not doing events is helping but I am competing in a few weeks and I have not trained for it. I feel at about 85% most of the time which is a **** ton better than before.
That was my favorite nigh I think we have all had together. You werent there when we got ****face with Captin Kirk so it that one doesn't count. When are you going to start lifting again?
Pretty much. Interesting thing is now the idea of a "nerd" is becoming celebrated by pop culture and does not have the negative undertone it once did.

I will most likely be spectating at the Jan 25th Strongman, but I'm not doing it. Just wasn't feeling it this time around. Appreciate the invite, though. When I get stronger I will be destroying these contests.

If you just come out and say hi I think that would be awesome. We can both mire at how big the other has gotten since we last hung out.
Well right now its because that is what the program I am doing calls for. It's coans 14 week peak cycle for my Sq/DL and will be coming down in reps as the weight goes up over the next 10-12 weeks. This is the reason I decided to do a PL meet, if I am peaking 2 lifts in training might as well compete.
In strongman there is rarely a max event, so working in the 5-10 rep range gets you accustom to how things work in a contest. Also I have a hard time doing tons of accessories so I make sure I am wrecked by my main lifts.
The more I train and read, the more I find that reps build pr's. Sounds simple but a lot of the time I get caught up in ego lifting and forget I need to continually build the base instead of test the structure.

just curious, i've always been of the train of thought on volume through lower rep stuff for pl. increases the body's ability to tolerate load bearing yada yada. always interested to see reasoning in other directions. not that 8 rep is high by any means.
the strongman carry over makes sense. i've trained in most sports w/ exception to strong man. just trying to dial in PL atm as i've always had to do everything due to work. so i'm not anti rep work at all, just trying to learn. The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them. - William Clayton

you could do your normal low reps, high sets then do like 1 or 2 assistance lifts per week with high reps, low sets just to see how you like it without losing valuable time missing out on heavy weight
if you find that it helps your lifts then maybe incorporate some more high reps stuff but if you find that it just wastes your time that could be spent elsewhere then stop doing it
that's what i would suggest, that way you don't mess yourself up by venturing too far out into experimental trainingThe muscles i value most are the ones directly surrounding the spine, the hips, the scapula, the femur and the tibia... in that order.
Basically the whole body minus chest and biceps... pretty much the opposite of what your local gym looks like on a typical Monday.

Squats
2 x 3 @ 135
2 x 3 @ 225
2 x 3 @ 275
8 @ 320
Today was bitter sweat, I squatted in my only shoes WITH NO KNEE PAIN for the first time in a long time. Felt great and had 15+ reps in me.
Bad thing was I took a pre workout packet I found in my supp drawer and bout threw up unracking my second set, still gagging now but not as bad. Going to drink some water and most likely go back out and get some assistance done when my body calms down.

I almost never do. I stick to the 1 rockstar a day on training days only thought so I actually get something out of energy drinks. Supplements and I do not get along @ all. Last pre stim I took (forget what is's called) made my face and neck break out in heat rash, was the weirdest and worst side I have ever had. Literately went from clear complexion to the worst proactive before photo in 2hrs. I do not even use protein powder, just food, rockstar, and . . . . on a rare occasion.

I take a multi and some joint stuff. I use protein but it's because I live in the barracks for now and I only have a mini fridge. Too pricey not to buy in bulk for meat for me. When I'm home I only use it if I'm rushing around and forget to eat sometimes.
