I am about to send away and start studying for a personal trainer certification. For the past several years all I have heard is that NASM is the best. I have heard lately some questioning that logic. Is NASM still the one to have? Is it just another fad and another cert will be THE ONE a little while down the road? You guys are the experts. What do you think?

What are your goals? Get a job at corporate? Independent? etc...
Everything aside, you should never stop learning as a personal trainer because the more you know, discern, and apply, the better trainer you can be. Whether it be NASM, ACSM, NSCA, NCSF, ISSA... or whatever, you want to pick the things that apply to what you wanna do as a trainer.
My suggestion, go ahead and start off with NASM and figure out what you want to do from there. It's a good base for physiology, exercises, program design, interactions, and other things.

You can have a bachelor's in anything and take it, I believe. It doesn't even have to be in a science type major A bit ridiculous, but the certification is still intense. Every trainer should have basic physiology and anatomy down before they start becoming a trainer. The rest of the CSCS should teach you what you can't learn from a community college class.

ME TOO! I am considering a private business as well and looking at NASM as well ... considering a mobile gym (may be) and working with Vegans, because I am a vegan.
For someone like me, who is very new to this whole thing ... its really hard to know which program is really right. I am thinking they are all good, and the one that is best formatted for us, the one that we learn the most from is the one that is right for us.
