@ OP, you need to rest. Your body will not progress without it. You need to train, get rest and eat well. Training everyday will eventually lead to taxing your CNS. It is a general rule that you wait 48-72 hours between muscle groups to allow them to recuperate. Everyone is different and can work things harder or maybe have to take it easy.

Can you work out every day? Yes. Do you want to? No.

If you are going to lift every day it is better to do a 5 day split. Chest, Back, Shoulders, Arms, and Legs. That should give each muscle group enough rest.

I work out hard 5 days a week mon-fri, I'll work traps, back, lats, shoulders, triceps, chest, and I'll do Legs and Abbs on weekends. They say you are supposed to take 1 to 2 days off but I cant bring myself to do that. What I'm doing seems to be working though so I think it depends on the person.

Really depends on the person. But I believe during a bulking cycle, rest is a MUST. During my current bulk I lift hard (pretty much to failure everyday) 5 days a week and then rest it up for 2 days. Your muscle still grows as you rest, it needs to heal from the exercises you did to tear it up. During a cut you can push it to lifting/cardio 6x a week, possibly even every single day. Since you're trying to burn as much fat as possible. But for me, I would only workout a max of 6x a week. I need a rest day so I don't pass out or something from over exhaustion.

Every day is too much. Take a day off once or twice a week. No reason to be in there every single day, even if on leg days you are working upper body and vice versa. Take at least one day a week and enjoy yourself =)

Yeah, that's what i meant. My routine is like this:

    Mon: Chest/Triceps
    Tues: Back/Biceps
    Wed: Shoulder/Forearms
    Thurs:Legs
    Fri: Day off
    Sat: Chest/Triceps etc

Is that good. Or is it better to take a day off in between each day of workout? I'm on a BULK btw.

imo, unless you have been training hard for more than a year, or you have good recovery genetics, then your not pushing yourself hard enough if your able to train everyday with no rest days.

If you feel like you can train everyday then you're probably not training with enough intensity. Just saying.

I dont think you read my reply either. I asked about training 4 days then a day off. so 4 on, 1 off. Not workout everyday. Is anyone even reading the replies??

Working out everyday would stimulate a better endurance for muscle growth and yet improves muscle memory, but I'm still not particularly sure about over training and ****. My workouts are done everyday but I cut em into short bits throughout the day. I also do have proper workouts from 45 to 60 minutes.

It depends how you split your workout. It would be smart to take a day or both days in the weekend to let your body recover and be ready for the next week.

You need to take off days occasionally at least, but the best advise that someone can give you is your body. There are days that I can pull 2 workouts in a day, and days that I can't workout. (when I say I can't I mean that I can't give my 100% at the gym). So always listen to your body

I think it's fine, with some caveats...

I mean lifting for an hour a day and then having a desk jockey job, going home and parking your butt on the sofa for the night - you can lift daily with a proper split.

It's not a black and white answer.

YES, you could workout every day perfectly fine.

It's the VOLUME throughout the week that matters, if you were to do it every day, you would have to take your total volume into consideration.

    Will you progress? Yes

Is it optimal? Most likely not
    don't care

It depends on the person and the routine but it should be ok if you're getting enough rest and nutrition...AND you are not over-exerting yourself over a long period of time.

I go to the gym every morning in order to keep a daily routine but at one point I was over-training with not enough rest and it eventually lead to stalling and injuries.

It all depends how you look at it. If your getting results, enough sleep, solid nutririon and liatining to your body its all right. Try it for 8 weeks thwn switch to 4 or5 days were you workout.

Personally, I love to train everyday. But I work in a gym. So split routines are impossible to avoid for me. Love training and can never get enough.
I take a week off at Christmas time and 1 or 2 weeks off for holidays.
    Thats it.
Other tan that, everyday, never had a problem with overtraining.
