We can go on with the pads v no-pads argument forever but how often is a nfl player knocked out during a game / injured, thats right a damn site less than rugby. The force of a hit may be more on a nfl player but by the time that energy has dissapated through there padding they can barely feel it.

They did a study and found that simply removing the face mask from a helmet almost eliminated helmet to helmet contact...The study found those involved in the study were hitting "half speed" to protect themselves....
Im not taking anything away from Rugby because it is one h*ll of a tough sport. The idea that people are going to hit at their full potential speed without protection and without concern for their well being doesnt appear to be a reality, however.
I've played vicious pick up games and I know every single player on the field was still holding something back due to the lack of protection..But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you.
