How much does a HUSKY cost and how expensive is it to raise one?

The Husky has always been my favorite dog.. along with the goldren retriever and german shepherd. I always wanted one, but I know raising one is not cheap.. so is there any brahs here who has one and what's your experience like raising one? Is it worth all the money you put in to raise it? You know what they say.. a good dog is a man's best friend.

What matters is the intensity, integrity, & courage you bring to the effort.

Probably can get an AKC Husky for about $300-$500...............they aren´t any more or less expensive than any other dog its size but they are limited as far as training. They have a short attention span but they love tug of war and love to play.

I got a purebread siberian about 3 weeks ago from a breader. He was 600. So far i've spent about 400 at the vet to de-worm him and get his vaccinations. So around 1000 for a now healthy puppy. The need a ton of exercise, we go on 5 mileish walks every day. The one day i haven't exercised him he was terrorizing anything he could get his mouth on.

Husky's don't need much bathing. Like cats, they bathe their own coats. I have the benifit of many of my friends having dogs, so he has a play buddy almost every day. This decreases the amount of time that i must exercise him, but they need a ton of exercise, as they were built to pull loads over great distances. I feed him 3 times a day, usually after some sort of exercise, and I always do 10 to 15 minutes of training before he gets his food. As far as having a short attention span, that simply isn't true. They are brilliant dogs, you just need to know how to reach them. Food motivation after exercise is the best way. He is nearly 12 weeks old now and already knows 7 commands, so they learn at an incredible rate (sit, stay, wait, lay down, up, come, and kennel). They are very people/pack oriented, so it is better that someone be home with them during much (not all) of the day. Luckily my girlfriend doesn't work and she is a great dog trainer.

hmm maybe I should hold it off for now as I'm very busy these days, but I will evantually get one!

I wish theres a gym where you can take your dog to workout, while you get your own workouts in. It's too bad dogs dislike other dogs (if they arent familiar with each other)

It's just as good for me as it is for him. I'm a cardio-avoider by nature so it is definitely a symbiotic relationship as far as that goes. I could get away with shorter walks, but that will generally mellow him out for 4-6 hours. He gets wound up without exercise.

Yea I love those dogs as well. and have always wanted one. I am hesitant to get one because they really do need loads of exercise. Also I don't have a house and I believe a backyard is crucial for those dogs, unless you like to walk him/her everyday.

They need a lot of exercise, and I MEAN A LOT.
You need to put in the exercise time. They are very energetic and beautiful dogs.

Maybe attention span being short is a stretch...........but brilliance? Would not EVER use that in the same sentence with a husky. Their learning curve is way different than a GSD or Belgian Malinois who can learn aggression, drug searching, and basic commands at 8 weeks with praise as a reward not food (which can be unhealthy in the long run) but to each his own. I guess Iḿ a little biased.

I used to want a husky, would rather have a Malamute now, they're bigger and idk I like them alot more. Sucks though, I live in Texas so it would be hard to have one here in the subtropical climate.

Do not get this dog if you are not willing to take it running for at least 45minutes a day. Period.

Do not get this dog unless you can not take it running AT LEAST FOR 45 MINUTES A DAY. More time would be better for a husky. Most people will be like "Oh I take my dog whatever for 30 min a day and he's fine..." ..... no. That's not gonna work. They are extremely intelligent dogs. They need a lot of stimulation.

They are amazing dogs. They are amazing friends. They require a lot of attention, and a lot of discipline.

This will not just be some dog you can give food to, and leave alone for 23 out of 24 hours of the day. This is not an inside dog either. It is a great injustice to this creature if you are only going to put it into a kennel for 16-18 hours of the day while you are at work and asleep.

This dog sheds A LOT. AAAAAAAAA LOOOOOOOOT.

Do not get this dog unless you want a to raise a small child [the dog is the child,] or unless you have a large back yard where you can let him run free for a good 8 hours of the day while you are at work. If you are in an apartment I would suggest to not get any dog at all, ESPECIALLY not this one.

Exactly. This is what I mean. Lots of attention. Lots of exercise. Lots of training.

    Dunno how I missed this.

Don't get a f*cking dog if you aren't going to raise it like it was your own son.

You are not only doing a great disservice to the animal by not giving it the direction and intellectual stimulation it needs, you are perpetuating a "pet industry," by doing so.

If you want a pet get a f*cking cat or something. They don't need need you to tell them what to do.

A dog is small human. If you don't teach him, he will be a child forever. If you teach him, and give him the correct direction and stimulation, there is no telling what he cannot do.

DO NOT GET A DOG IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TEACH HIM. PERIOD.

I've got 2 of them..one is 8 the other is 2. Amazing dogs. Well tempered, well behaved. Mellow for the most part. Extremely friendly and affectionate animals. One of them was a steal at $300 and the other was bought from a breeder at $1200. Shots to date cost a couple hundred each. Toys, sleeping pads, food another $500-1000 a year for the basics.

Edit: both of the dogs sit, stay, shake, lay down, roll over, bark on command. They are both very smart as well...didn't take them long to realize if they stand on their hind legs and put their weight on the door handle they can open the door. They often attempt to sneak into the pantry.

VERY IMPORTANT: they need plenty of room to run and play unless you are going to take it for walks and out/about when you go places. Also, they have a pack mentality, meaning they need other dogs or people around, or they will get lonely and depressed. DON'T BUY ONE IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO LEAVE IT BY ITSELF ALL THE TIME.
