That's very true. The challenge for me lately has been trying to handle several things all at the same time on the psychological level...especially since I am experiencing emotions so intensely and all at once. But, with enough time, I will prevail!
Yep1 I worked on my form and was able to peak at 600lbs for 4 reps slightly before my dad's passing. I was in the mid-20's with 405 as well, but I need to start doing more cardio if I'm going to break 30 with Miller...I was out of breath before I was out of strength!
I switching to a Max OT type setup because of the time constraint that I have during tax season. I worklong 14-16 hour days, so I need an approach that allows for me to maximize intensity and time in the gym. I'm also incorporating some rest pause and heavy drop sets too.
I don't necessarily favor this approach over any other, it just happens to fit my situation the best at this point in time. Besides, nutrition is about 90% of this entire game...as long as you nail nutrition the way you should, you can look amazing as long as you train at least half way non-retarded.
Absolutely! I have just a few more things that I would like to accomplish in this sport before I hang it up for good. As long as it doesn't interfere with the joy I have in my life right now, I will find a way to accomplish those things and then move onto the next great challenge!
Thanks for being here while I do!
So am I - it will be nice to have some fixed structure for a change!
Thank you!
Thats right....31 is the new 21!
Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks, so do I!
Yes, that's the trick. I have to be able to not sacrifice the time I want to committ to my family, business, etc. As things settle down, it will just be more of a time management challenge than anything else. The food thing will be an easy one for us because my daughter eats all the same nutritious foods we eat thankfully. So, it will be more of me maximizing my time conisitently...
Thanks! I appreciate that!
What's the matter, don't know any Shakespeare? :P
Thanks Brandon! Sure thing, I'll make a separate post or two of some of my progress and stage shots....
You got it!
I will! The workouts won't be near as impressive, but the journey back will be exciting!
Always!
You bet!

Hey gang!
So check this out, I had every intention of getting into the gym this weekend to start my way back up on tracking workouts, meals, etc. and sure enough, when it rains it pours! So I found out a couple days ago that a tenant in one of my rentals passed away. He was an older fella, and it was a tiny 1 bedroom apartment...I could tell he was on his way out, but you never know when something like that could happen. And just as I was in the process of dealing with that, a grease kitchen fire erupted in another rental of mine and burned down about 1/3 of the house LOL. I mean, at this point all I can do is laugh really. So, as much fun as I think Monday will be trying to deal with all of that on top of the first week of electronic filing, I am still going to the gym at 5am!
As for meals, I will be relying on oatmeal, egg whites, and protein powder for the majority of the day for the first couple of weeks until we get moved into our new place and I can grill out some meat in bulk. Later this week, I'm going to make an order for supplements and start dialing in the supplementation with the nutrition. Then it will just be a matter of consistency!
Anyone have their eye on Iran lately? Does anyone other than myself see all the chess pieces moving around the board like it's about to turn into something serious? If it does, be ready for some expensive gasoline...

bahah nice, repped
in all seriousness they're doin all they can to goad us into something nasty, and i'll be honest it's getting a little too serious for my taste. pretty soon we're gonna threaten them with nukes and their gonna be able to threaten back, and now you've got a new version of the cuban missile crisis, except this time we don't have to be a couple hundred miles from them"The weak-minded would shrink away from what must be done for fear of being ridiculed by the wicked" - Terry Goodkind

Hey everyone! It feels good to be back and posting again! Instead of starting a new log, I figured I would just revive this old one and pick up where I left off a long time ago. Lots of life has happened, but I am finally back into the gym consistently now and at a point where I feel like I can begin posting again on a regular basis. Up until about a month ago, my training and nutrition was pretty hit and miss...training especially - which made it pointless to really try and keep up a training log. I basically just went to the gym when I could, and even then, I would usually only have an hour or less to squeeze something in. The nutrition part just hasn't been tracked, but for the most part I am eating nutritious whole foods, I just don't know exactly what my ratios are or the amounts I'm eating. My body is just maintining a particular weight and look right now as I am slowly building my strength back up to where it used to be.
Other than that, I will be talking about little bits and pieces of all the different things going on as I progress with the journal. For now, I just wanted to get this log back up and rolling so I had a place to start keeping me on track!
Nutrition
I am basically just rotating a lot of the same food sources on a regular basis. Lots of chicken, turkey, extra lean ground beef, egg whites, whole wheat/whole grain pastas and tortillas, brown and white rice, oatmeal, sweet and white potatoes, almonds, natural peanut butter, and occasionally some low fat cheese. I venture off those sources about once a week (usually on Sundays) for some pizza for dinner since that is our designated one night off a week of cooking from scratch. I typically track macros for the first half of the day up to and through post workout, and the last two meals of the day I don't. If I needed to start tracking for the sake of progress, a certain look, etc. then I will, but for now there is really no need.
Supplementation
Very basic. I'm taking the following:
Solgar VM75 Multi-Vitamin
10,000 IU Vitamin D3
1g Vitamin C
6g Fish Oil (I'm also throwing in some left over Sesamin and CLA I have just sitting around to use them up)
Primaforce Elastimine and Cissus (joint care)
2-3g Creatine Monohydrate post workout (there is usually a few grams already in a preworkout)
Beta Alanine + Cirtulline Malate + BCAAs (during workout)
Whatever pre-workout drink I am trying out at the time. Currently I am trying out Mr Hyde for the time being based on a friend's recommendation.
Training
Now that I am training consistently, I have been doing a basic routine that rotates around the days I am able to go to the gym and the time frame I have. As of right now, it's now a set in stone routine - which to be honest - has been refreshing for a change. At this point, I am just making sure I am hitting all muscle groups in all rep ranges, I vary the intenisty techniques here and there between rest pause and heavy drop sets, and am hitting muscle groups about once every 5-6 days. It's worked well for getting me back to where I was before. Within a couple of weeks I will be transitioning back to one of my periodization plans as I have every intention of working my way back to the stage, possibly as soon as next summer/fall. For those that care, I've been able to work back up to these weights for these lifts:
Conventional Deadlifts: 585X2
Parallel Squats: 495X2
Barbell Bench Press: 345X4
Starting with tomorrow's workout, I will be laying things out with my plan and thoughts along the way, so feel free to join along with me in my journey back to the stage!

Yes, glad to hear everything's on the up and up with you Tommy.
Any chance you making the trip to the Cape Cod show this year?
Looking forward to following your journey back, I know it's been a tough one.Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it. ~Plato

Great to be back!
A little adversity just makes us stronger, right?
I can't make it to the Cape this year unfortunately...I have way too many things here that require my attention - one of which is a newborn that is due any day
I plan on a definite trip next year as I have two absolutely monster clients that are aiming for that particular show in 2013...and hell will freeze over before I miss their pro debut!

I completely understand how life works, even when we were working together I had things crop up.
Looks like both of us are back into it - and I'm looking forward to watching your results unfold once again.

Awesome, thanks for that - it means a lot! I'm glad that I was able to in some way inspire you and reaffirm your decision to stay involved in the sport!
Yeah, everyone goes through it to one extent or another. What matters most is how we choose to deal with it and make ourselves better. There are a lot more important things in life than lifting weights and bodybuilding, and when those things require our full attention, there's no shame in scaling back the workouts in order to get your life in order!
In this sport, NOTHING is strange lol
Thanks! Once the little one comes, it is back to 6am workouts! Woo Hoo!
Thanks! After a year of rehab, I can't say at all that I am disappointed with where I am at. It could have been A LOT worse! I just hope I'm not too old to push those numbers even higher
Awesome - thanks for the support guys...I really appreciate it!
