I'm considered taller than average and I have no problem squatting more than the shorter people in my gym. Actually my height effects none of my lifts in a negative way. And actually provides advantages in a handfull of lifts. My advice is too just keep on squatting, you WILL get stronger if you are eating correctly.

I'm 6'5 and 15, and I cant bend my knees more then say 45 degrees when Im doing a BB squat, and at that im still doing 500+. I dont know if this will be helpful in anyway, but Im tall and have trouble squatting in the sense that my knees lock at a certain degree and cant get any lower. is this because Im tall? no idea. I think some people just squat, others dont. body mechanics plays a large role in this.

I'm 6'4" I could squat about 400 when I was in college (about 10 years ago). I've been an on again off again cyclist since then. I noticed that I was starting to get rather large in the mid section a while back so I decided to get back to the gym about 2 months ago. My 1rm for squats last week was 305. I know those aren't crazy huge numbers, but I plan on making some progress.

As has be said, the fact that you are taller means you have to move the weight more distance. The fact that you have longer limbs gives you a mechanical disadvantage (longer limbs are longer levers). That being said, there are plenty of tall people who lift a lot of weight (I am not yet one of them FWIW), so you can overcome this. If you are not happy with your squat (or any other lift), make sure your form is good by getting a friend to check it or posting a video on here, and keep squatting. The weight will come.

You'll have to work harder to fight against your natural build, but once you get there you will look better. Ladies don't like short men, be happy you're tall.
big assumption you look better just cause your 6'5.. i wouldnt want to be that tall tbh im short now i wouldnt mind being 5'10.. but that prob wont happen unless i get a lucky growth spurt before im 25.

and tougher? not really id be more scared of the short big guys..we little guys have nasty tempers when roused. I've got a mate whose 6'8 and hes naturally broad before he lifted but he dosnt look tough just cause of that.. hes a pansy aswell !. Im always randomly told i look like a bodyguard/tough cause im big. Height means jack when it comes to it lol.

Ladies dont judge a man by his height/looks generally unless they are immature little girls that have yet learnt to grow up.

I used to be one of those guys that thought and told everyone that I couldn't squat because I was too tall. I won't say it again thats for sure.

I am 6' 10", have arthritis in both knees and am prone to bone spurs. I have started squatting again recently and am loving it. In all actuallity, my knees feel a lot better now than they did before I started doing them. I need to work a lot on my form, but am getting a ton of good information from posts like these. I know the weight that I am using would be laughable to some, but it is what I can do. I am not worried what others may think or say about it. If you work hard and have good form the gains in weight will come. Maybe I will post some vids after this weekends workout for you all to check my form.

    omg yes....
Its ridiculous how people whine about their lifts, are you in the closet about trying to be a powerlifter or something?? just keep pushing away, you need progressive overload to get bigger and you will get stronger but, for your own good, stop wasting time worrying yourself with numbers and how they rate.

to the guy that is 6'10: damn! do they make LTT sizes? and Im with you on not squatting much weight at all, just have to start light and practice form!

really if squats are so hard to do (i mean as in your body just physically cant do them well, not that its too much effort in which case dont be a pussy and man up and master the form) then give them a break and do other lifts, leg press, squat/leg machines e.t.c.. V-squat if u got access to one is excellent for taller guys, back is supported and quads do all the work.

its not proportionate because tall people still have the same body width, you understand?

i personally believe its harder the taller u are because of the hinge point at the knee because there more of a longer lever above and below the knee makes the resistance harder this totally makes sence to me

Old thread but I'll bite. At 6', I am not exactly the tallest. But with my proportions, my ass is damn near staining the ground at *parallel*. Slight exaggeration, but it's not a height/mobility thing all the time.

Dude that's totally not true. All do respect if you have a basic understanding of physics you'd know that a tall persons ROM, is greater than that of someone who's small. If a short persons total ROM is 48 in. and the taller guys is 60 in., then you do 10 reps.... the tall guy has pushed the weight 10 more feet than the shorter guy. Don't knock the dudes progress unless you have the facts straight.
