Hey guys, this is just out of interest. So do any of you DJ? If so what equipment do you use? TT's? CDJ's? Traktor? Serato? Mixvibes? VDJ? I'm a Dj and I use Traktor Scratch Pro, and I've got a VCI 100se.
Do any of you play at clubs or parties, and what style do you mix? Do you have any mixes to share or tracks that you've produced?
Lets get together ITT and talk about all things related to DJing, music, clubs, mixes, etc.
Cheers. D.

Why sould it be a waste of time? Its about music. Ask them is playing guitar, piano or drums a waste of time? So why would Djing be a waste? If you want to get into it, it wont cost you to much to start. If you go the digital Dj you can get a controller with software for $150, thats not to much to start and after you've played around a bit, if you like it you can save up to get better stuff, and go from there.

Thx Brah I fkin LOVE house/electro club styled music, I'm always listening to music hah. I tried even talking to them and they were saying crap like "ur not gonna make any money", "ur gonna be an embarrassment to our family", "you'll never get anywhere with that, do something real like business management"... :/

First of all Djing is not about making money its about doing what you enjoy. Its a hobby. NEVER think of it as making money, if it starts to pay off then great, but as people say never quit your day job. Djing is a very competitive game, and to make it you have to be REALLY good. I'm only now recently starting to make some decent cash from it, but I still didnt quit my day job.
You know a good way to start is to get the software if you go the software route and practice on your computer until you think you pretty good, and then invest in something more. Tell your parents its your hobby that you enjoy music, and show them that its not going to affect anything. Start it as a hobby and progress from there.__________________

sup. three TT's (1200's), 2 cdj's. I pretty much refuse to use any laptop with my setup, unless it's for recording. i've rrreally gotten back into the swing of it...play lots of stuff similar to what you'll find in the thread i've got linked in my sig.

I'm currently saving up for the new Traktor S4 from Native INstruments. It's an all in one digital DJ type system. From what I hear it's pretty incredible. Cheaper than buying 2 CDJs and a mixer.
I've DJ'd before and its something I'd like to take up as a hobby, or even DJ in small bars/clubs on weekends. I pretty much live and breath hip hop, house, trance and dubstep** Electrical & Electrical Engineer Brah **

Nice dude, I started on TT's and then CDJ's but for the last 2 yrs I've embraced digital Djing and now I pretty much dont Dj without my laptop. I do still use CDJ and TT's though but I use timcode.
Man that controller is sick! Its expensive but damn awesome. I would recommend that controller to anyone who's looking for a top of the line all in one controller.
Sweet, isnt it quite a big boy? (no homo)
Are you using Serato itch with it or have you mapped it to another software?__________________

Yeah being mobile and portabiltiy is what its about these days. I'm all for having a DJM 800 + 2 CDJ 2000's but to lug those around will be a hassle. The vci 100 is awesoem and the newly released Kontrol S4 kills IMO. If you sell your gear you could get the S4 easily.
Now an Ableton and Traktor bridge would work well. I did a DJ guest set about a month ago, where the other Dj was using Ableton. We linked up the 4 channels, I was using 1 + 2, he was using 3 + 4, it was awesome. Check below.

Well if you want to go the digital route which I recommend, there are a few softwares out there, it just depends what you prefer. I first started on virtual Dj, and then moved to Traktor Pro which I currently use now.
I personally would say try out Traktor, its a awesome Dj software program with lots of features.
I would also say try checking out Djtech tools .com and Dj forums .com.
They are excellent sites for learning everything you need to know about Djing.__________________

Ah cool mate, dont worry about free software, I use RE and its also free. Its not great like MiK but it still does the job pretty well.
Ok cool, I'm thinking about getting into producing sometime, just need the time.
Yeah I've used Itch before on a vci 300. I tested the NS7 out once at GC when it was first released, I loved it but it costs $1200
I'm thinking about getting the S4, that thing is so sick!Last edited by Dj Pimpsta; 11-16-2010 at 01:14 PM.

Nice set up man! I love the X1, its awesome for its size, and I use Traktor so its perfect for me.
I dig the CDJ 800's, but have you looked at the new 850's? they HID bro! Do you have the HD 25 1 ii's or the standard HD 25's headphones? I'm still trying to decide on those or the TMA 1's.__________________
