A good way to celebrate Veteran's day is to help the guy at the intersection clean your windshield.

Maybe you should have said to tip the guy 10 bucks, but what you said definitely didn't come across as nice.

It can be taken offensively but I would also think it would help a lot of people open their eyes to a sad truth. Most people don't understand the magnitude of the problem.

Changing the story to something less offensive...
Tell me who is in the wrong here.
I have a book for sale on a publishing website. This website, which sells a wide variety of books online, has a Veteran's Day discount of 20% off all merchandise. Trying to get some sales for me as well as helping others expand their libraries in buying other items, I shared this sale with a large circle of people, not all of whom are friends. One @sshole, who hates my guts despite never tasting them, said "I find it highly offensive that someone would try to use this solemn day for the hawking of commercial goods." Then he went on to say that his father is a veteran and deserves a "thank you" call today. Then he repeated his statement of how offended he was. He changed the focus to something it wasn't about, and does this frequently in his posts to the group.
Yet many, many stores offer discounts on this day. I was just trying to be helpful. A win-win, if you think about it.
Who was wrong? Me? Or this jackwagon?

I am making a joking on ********, the beauty of ******** is you can delete me as a friend if you don't like what I have to say. Do I respect veterans absolutely, I don't think people should take what I have said too seriously.
And most of the comments on ******** are "THanks VETERANS!!!!" It's such bull****, you think because you typed two words that you are in any way shape or form helping veterans, if you really cared about veterans you wouldnt just write it on ********. And by the phucking way I just ran a marathon last week to support injured veterans. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Considering a relatively high percentage of homeless individuals in the United States are in fact Vietnam vets there is some accuracy in your statement. Its funny though that more people here aren't angry that there are vets who are homeless, they are only angry that you are bringing it to your attention.

I don't see how it is offensive.
If anything, it's a look at what happens with our society. Our war veterans often go forgotten, and have a difficult time finding meaningful employment and/or attaining a decent education to achieve a higher status in life.
Many Vietnam vets are homeless. If anything, people should direct their anger of your statement towards that fact.

This.
It's funny how quick people are to jump and act offended when you post a comment like that, but I believe many of these same people would avoid giving money to a bum, regardless if he is a homeless vet or not. I guess it's just their way of being able to feel self-righteous for 'helping the vets,' even though they did little more than make a comment about how messed up the situation is.
