As a rough rule of thumb, figure on it taking as long as it takes to add 10 pounds of overall muscle to add 1" to your arms.
    No brain, no gain.

i know i heard this rule many times, i got my self in a ****ed up situation because im stuck with 15 inch arms maybe a little less, im 15-20 pounds overweight and i want to add an inch to my arms. do i:

a: expect to lose 20 pounds and gain an inch of muscle?

b: lose 10 pounds and gain 10 pounds of muscle at the same time,( if possible?)

c: lose the fat, then work on gaining the 10 pounds?

If you are truly overweight and your stats are accurate, you would have much less than 15" arms after you finish cutting. I would focus on getting stronger while losing weight, which is possible if you are very overweight and/or are new to training.

I'm looking to cut a lot of weight myself, so don't feel too bad. I would be happy to be where you're at, around 190-195.

Don't overthink this. Get on a balanced routine that works your entire body, and then work it like the devil's dogs are on your tail. Eat slightly above maintainance. Give it time.

my stats are incorrect actually these are my stats:
    all for 5 reps

    deadlift 120kg
    squat 105kg
    oh press 55kg
    bench 75kg

i agree if i cut my arms will probly be less than 15 but will be near enough because when i flex my arms you can still see a good amount of definition in the triceps and biceps.

I'm at 17.5" right now and I've been lifting since 6th grade.. I'm a senior now going to OU for track on a full ride, I used to be hella fat and I worked it all off before I started putting size onto my arms. It's a long haul, it's not gonna be something easy, but when you start getting compliments on your shoulders, arms, and your shirts start fitting skin tight around the bi's/tri's, you won't regret a single second of all the time you put into the gym!

I do agree with the cardio. You can offset it with your eating but I think it's very beneficial to have a good fitness base when you start to cut. That way you won't have a jammer during your runs when your cutting.

When I started mass building with no diet I plateau'd at 15 inches. I started a bulking diet end of august and my arms are now 16'

    Food plays a HUGE part!

Assuming you want lean 17 inch arms it will take time, probably years.
There’re guys boasting that they have 17’s but in reality it’s their body fat that’s adding an inch or two to that arm size.
It took me about 5 years to go from about 14 to 17 that might seem a long time, but my arms are lean and carry very little fat.

usually takes me 1 year to put on half and inch --3/4 of an inch. Takes a lot of time be patient and work on the rest of your body and your arms will grow with it. Also a more defined shoulder will bring out your arms.

I've been stuck at 13.5 inches for months of bulking, added well over 10lbs but they won't grow, I figure that they will be at the 16" point in around 2-3 years. feelsbadman

    I dunno. Maybe when I was 8, I had 18" arms?

They are a little over two feet now.

--The proper plural form of the Latin adjective biceps is bicipites, a form not in general English use. Instead, biceps is used in both singular and plural (i.e., when referring to both arms). The form bicep [sic], although common even in professional contexts, is considered incorrect. (from Wikipedia)

Just make sure to focus on your diet when you are cutting, what I have found to work best is keeping my protein high and making sure you are not at to large of a caloric deficit or else your body will start catabolizing your muscle for proteins. Also you may want to look into nutrient timing to further facilitate your goals. Also, when you do a bulk/cut cycle you need to make sure they are long term, if you are doing yo-yo diets then you will end up spinning your wheels. One last tip, make sure you are progressing your weight and if you want size make sure you are hitting the 8-12 rep range and rele focus on form and squeezing at the top of the range of motion for max muscle activation and pumping that blood all the way in the muscle. Good luck!

Strong first post, unfortunately, the OP probably isn't around to thank you. On the upside, he's had 5 years to figure it out. Bet he's up to 15 1/8" by now!
