OOOOH-RRAAHHHHH!!!!
Last month I did a USMC 10K mud run & obstacle course, and there were young ROTC kids going through it and preparing to ship out to boot camp.
The Marines kick ass! They sure kicked mine last month even though they probably really went easy on me!
SEMPER FI!!I'm Batman.
Okay, I'm not.

<<<<< mother of a Marine, no longer active
<<<<< niece of a lifer...may he rest in peace
Proudest moment of my life was the day my son graduated from recruit to Marine at the Depot. (well, that and the day he married my beautiful daughter- in- law, How he snagged her is one of the mysteries of this universe)

I agree.....
<<<<<<< also the very proud and very lucky daughter of a WWII Hero and Bronze Star Recipient - It just happens to be the Corps' B-day tomorrow. My son, the Marine, has the utmost respect for his grandfather and his service. The Marine is humbled by the stories. I am in awe when I attend the Timberwolf Reunions and sit among the Heroes.
I am in awe of ALL that serve this great country of ours. God Bless them all and God Bless the USA.

Addendum to my previous comment. Not being apologetic, just some clarification.
I have lots of respect for all servicemembers - past, present and future. When mothers and fathers give their kids to the US Military, it is never to be taken for granted the way we ALL should NEVER take our freedoms (or what's left of it) for granted. Having said this, the least the American Armed Forces could do is to provide our future warriors with the best training, the best equipment, and most importantly the best LEADERS (both NCO and officers alike).
I am very proud of my service in the Army. It truly breaks my heart whenever I hear our finest give their lives in the sand to keep us secure. (And it pisses me off at the same time when the hippie-ass civilian next to my cubicle - I freakin' hate civilian life - bitches about the weather.)
Back to my comment, what pissed me off about my Army experience is the way I experienced and witnessed the degradation of standards and traditions to appease the politicians who have never worn the uniform. That's all I'm saying.
To all servicemembers - We cannot thank you enough for your sacrifice.
And again, Happy Birthday, Marines! This above all..
To thine ownself be true..
And it must follow, as the night the day..
Thou can'st not then be false to any man..

Outstanding. PS. For future reference "Marine" is capitalized - it's a respect thing
93, eh? God Bless him. Reminds me of an old running cadence:
When my grandpa was a ninety one, he did PT just for fun.
When my grandpa was a ninety two, he did PT better than you.
When my grandpa was a ninety three, he did PT better than me.
When my grandpa was a ninety four, he did PT more and more.
When my grandpa was a ninety five, he did PT just to stay alive.
When my grandpa was a ninety six, he did PT just for kicks.
When my grandpa was a niney seven, he upped, he died, and he went to Heaven.
He met St. Peter at the Pearly Gates and said, "Sorry, St. Peter, I am late."
St. Peter said with a big ol' grin , "GET ON YOUR FACE, AND GIVE ME TEN!!"This above all..
To thine ownself be true..
And it must follow, as the night the day..
Thou can'st not then be false to any man..

No disrespect intended at all but, rather, as others have already pointed out, just a little bit of a friendly jab on the (then) eve of the birth of the USMC. As a Marine who has served as a grunt and as an Officer, I have never experienced inter-branch rivalry to be relegated to private arenas and/or only amongst ourselves. Rivalry between branches is widely known, well established and, I think anyway, recognized as only that - not as malice or animus.
I would never disrespect any of my fellow servicemen/women, publicly or privately, regardless of the branch in which they chose/choose to serve. Further, I would never imagine anyone to take that poster above to serve as a commentary on those who have lost their lives in the defense of our nation...nor would I intend the poster to be such a commentary...just as I take no offense to multiple posts within this birthday thread about our dress blues not "matching," nor regard it being a commentary on all Marines or an insult to those who have died while wearing the EGA.
Thank you for your service as well soldier.

I can certainly understand some positions insofar as the perception of 'disrespecting other branches.' We are at war, and many of our finest in all branches have made the ultimate sacrifice. It's very sensitive when American warriors die and we post 'joke posters.'
Interservice rivalries is a time-honored tradition which dates back to when General Washington whooped the Brits. We joke around the internet and the brick-and-mortar world because we, as veterans, earned the right to do so. At the end of the day, there is no doubt that a Marine would give his life for a Soldier; there is no doubt that an Airman would give his life for a Sailor. (And if a hippie-ass civie who has never served made fun of any servicemember he or she deserves to get his ass kicked.)
It's painful to see servicemembers die, but we cannot stop traditions. We must 'Charlie Mike' - Continue Mission. As such, with your kind permission I will do just that:
What does MARINES stand for? 'My Ass Really Is Navy Equipment Sir.' Could also be 'Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential System.'
How about ARMY? Ain't Ready for Marines Yet.
Love you, guys and gals. This above all..
