Essentially everything, but especially the movements. That's mostly what you pay for with higher end watches. Rolex makes a good watch (and anyone who says otherwise don't know what they are talking about BTW) but they don't compare to higher end stuff like JLC, PP, Lange & Sohne, etc.

Rolex is the top end of the consumer brands, but it's mid level at best in the watch world rankings.

End of the day, the movement *is* the watch, especially when you start to spend big $$$ on it. Lots of watch forums, etc you can read up on all that. Others here might have some good links for you also.

Unfortunately no degree, however my father has been a horologist for over 30+ years so I was fortunately lucky enough to have an*apprenticeship*under him. I have also completed the WOSTEP. Being a horologist demands that you pay attention to every minute detail you possibly can. After finishing the entire overhauling process I always double check it on the DV4 microscope at the job to make sure the oiling job on the jewels are on par and all the training wheels, dial, hands, stem, setting system, automatic system, springs, barrels, mainspring, balance wheel and pallet are all sufficiently clean, oiled and running smoothly.

I got the job through various different factors. I've worked at Tourneau a couple years back fixing many high-end movements and watches mainly mechanical models such as 2892, 2824, 2834, 2836 etc. I've also worked for Tiffany as well. So I already had many experiences on my resume. My father spoke to a friend and next thing i knew i had an interview set up.*

Average day would be like any other job, my jobs in NJ so i have to commute there. On arrival you basically get settled in and start working. Taking off the bracelets then the caseback, then the automatic system, then the clams, then the screws that hold on the movement ring, then you push out the clams that hold the dial in, then you take out the movement and take off the hands and dial. After that you begin on dissembling the calender and setting system before turning it over to work on the balance wheel... etc. etc.

I could go on for hours and explain the process haha but it'd be too long.

    You are exactly right.

Rolex makes great watches. However, the movement that you pay for inside of it all is still once again a Japanese Quartz movement. Compared to watches like Jaeger, Breitling, Hamilton, etc. It's considered not as great compared to them. PP however creates their own movements and all of their parts are self-made which in return costs much more than the average watch.

Horologists at Rolex make around 60K a year fixing not just Rolexes haha.

There is something charming about a Rolex movement; undecorated and rugged yet finely tuned. I'm a fan

Can you elaborate on that statement a bit? It's an odd statement...

You all need to watch this vid, so awesome. I guess Benzinger doesn't get spoken about often is because they don't create their own movements.

    Sup' watch crew,

Recently I've sold my Nixon 51-30 and now I'm back in the market for something completely different.

At the moment I've set my eyes on Sea-Gull M186S automatic watch. Because it's affordable and it looks magnificent. I love the roman numbering and the small case. I've sold my Nixon due to the enormous case size.

Has anyone heard anything about this chinese company ? Could you recommend me something similar to this, but not ridiculously priced ?

InB4 It looks just like Tissot Le Locle.
