    What are "impressive" bicep curls

Right now I'm doing 60 pound single arm dumbbell curls 3x8, also a 4th set of 70 until failure (5 reps)

What kind of poundage is impressive for a single arm free weight dumbbell curl?

DB curls isn't a movement in which numbers are highly regarded.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

What's really impressive is a heavy bicep curl by someone with long forearms. Or curling a sledgehammer held parallel to them.

I see so many people in my gym turning them into 'whole body' movements, or using various techniques to get their 'epic weight' into the air..

At the end of the day, if you couldn't curl it last week and your doing it this week id call that an impressive weight

depends on how much your body and or arm and swinging...

i see guys 10-20 years older than me "curl" more weight than i do every day, most of them have anterior deltoids that rival their biceps...

Impressive bicep curls = The ones that incorporate a fullbody swinging motion, referred to in some Eastern European circles as "the Latvian Leghump"

Impressive bicep curls (IBCs) performed in power rack = Grab your towel and walk out of the building right now bc that s%it is getting owned

Probably the only thing more 'impressive' than this guy's "curls" would be seeing him using the same form to hoist all the donuts to his gaping pie hole that he's obviously been eating

    Curls are never impressive.

If you want to impress people other than 16 year old males having doubts about their sexuality, deadlift.

Serious... Guys benching 195 with a totally undeveloped chest, while I'm doing reps with 155 next to them. Too bad you can't tape record those curls to show to people after you leave the gym.

honestly, who cares about curls. If you are doing clean curls at 60 you are doing good. If your body is rocking, not so good. I do 40 or 45 x 8 depending how I feel. Been at that weight for a while, not something I try and bust my plateau, especially since I only do one set of biceps at the end of a tiring back day, maybe 2.

Yeah I didn't mean to sound like a "bro" I have been lifting only for 3 years, I'm 22 years old, and I just wanted some comparable data to see how well my progress is.

I remember when I first started I could barely curl 25 pounds for 8 reps!

The 60 pounds is slow and controlled! I dont rock, I do the 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down rule.

Thanks though everyone, by the way all my lifts went up, bench is 245 pounds 3x8, deadlift is 275 pounds now, used to be like 125

numbers moved mean nothing in bodybuilding, especially, as DJ pointed out, in curls....

the gyms of America are littered with guys cheating up heavy curls and having no arms to show for it....

I don't think poundage is impressive... form and control is MUCH more impressive. I agree with folks that said that above. You also have to take into account the size of the person, both arm length and diameter.

Making progress (size and weight) with good form a good attitude is much more impressive than just doing heavy weight.

I think it's ironic how popular this exercise, that's it's not regarded as an important lift. I mean, if you think about it, bicep curls in one form or another, are still pretty popular. It probably wouldn't shock anyone if barbell or dumbbell curls are among the most performed weightlifting exercises out there.

My biceps are my weak point. I see skinny guys who have never trained curling 30lbs 3x10.

I can do 3x10 with a 50 pound bar. When I'm doing concentration I can reach 3x6 at 30 pounds on a good day. Strength is different with everyone, I guess. I'm not that strong.

I curl 40's or 45's for hammer curls with strict form. Yeah the guy on his cell phone in sandals is curling 65's. It's a full body lift for him.

I hope he drops the dumbbell on his foot. Douche.

BB curls with a plate on each side is impressive IMO.

I once saw a guy dedicate an entire 45 minute workout to curls... He did every curl variation imaginable.

I don't curl often but when I do I prefer to go with lighter weight, in the 15-20 rep range. I used to BB curl 85X12 for 3 sets, but it really hurt my elbows a lot.

Lately (Once a week) I've been doing 25LB DBs for 20-25 reps & 3 sets b/c its easier on the elbows.
