WNBF Banned stuff
I'm completely new to the bodybuilding scene. I mean I've been lifting weights for about 7 years off and on, eating healthy food, and putting on muscle, I haven't gotten to bodybuilding seriousness, until recently. I was considering to enter a WNBF contest in about a year and I wanted to begin preparing as soon as i got all my stuff straight. So I was looking on the WNBF banned substances page and there's a lot to take in there. So I was wondering if stuff like Animal Test, USP labs anabolic pump, thermogenics, pre-workout mixes (jack3d, no xplode etc.) even though they're legal, are banned in the WNBF? I apologize if I come off ignorant to the topic, by bodybuilding standards I am uninformed. I guess my definition of natural bodybuilding is using anything but any type of federally banned substance. Thanks for any responses I may receive

No problem, I am going to be updating and clarifying the Banned Substance list in the next month or so. It is pretty extensive and can be tedious to go through everything on the current list, so I encourage anyone who has a question about the legality of a product, please contact me before you take it.
On your list, Universal Animal Test, USP Labs Anabolic Pump & Jack3d and BSN NO Xplode are all legal to use in the INBF & WNBF.
My email is fitter@exercisegroup.com for anyone with a banned substance question.

I would think there might be problems with Animal Test if it puts you over the 6/1 ratio. I am for sure all natural and have no idea about test levels but I thought any test boosters could cause you to go over the T/E ratio. Any thoughts on that?

You're not going to get popped because you took some overpriced, tolken herbs and spices....even if they are called something as sexy as "Animal Test"

As Cape1 pointed out, it is highly-unlikely (near impossible) that an athlete is going to fail a T/E test because of Longjack, Tribulus or ZMA. In dealing with one failure, I had an athlete try to blame fish oil for exceeding his ratio. It just doesn't happen that way.
Ultimately, the athlete is responsible for what is in his or her body at the time the test is taken.
This is one of the reasons we do random testing for athletes not competing.

I am pretty sure these supplements are not banned I am pretty sure artificial testosterone products is the only thing banned and what ever supplement you can find on bodybuilding.com should be legal in competitions.

There are quite a few products that are sold on bb.com that are not legal in the INBF/WNBF.
You need to check each and every supplement before you use it. If there are any questions, PM or email me to check before you use them.

Hey Rich - like a dummy, I sent you an email in regards to a product without searching the site. But I see that 1,3-Dimethylamylamin is legal to take. Have you ever had anyone pop a false positive for amphetamines while on this?

We have never had an issue wth it on a test. Here is somethng I wrote for a recent issue of NB&F:
SUPPLEMENTS:
GETTING TO THE ROOT OF GERANIUM
By Rich Fitter
One of my responsibilities as WNBF Chairman is to weigh in on the use of what supplements are legal for use in the WNBF and INBF. On a daily basis, Charlie Carollo and I discuss emails from competitors inquiring about the use of a product in competition. Lately, one product has stirred up a lot of chatter on Internet forums, resulting in numerous questions by concerned athletes. The substance in question is geranium (1,3-dimethylamylamine 2-amino-4-methylhexane, 4-methyl-2-hexylamine, 1,3-dimethlypentylamine, methylhexaneamine, methylhexamine, forthane).
In the next few months, the WNBF Executive Committee will be issuing a new banned substance list that will clarify a lot of the issues surrounding gray-area supplements. The safety of the athletes is always at the forefront of the decisions on whether or not to ban certain supplements, as well as legal and ethical reasons.
After consulting with a number of independent experts in the field of herbal supplements, the WNBF Research Team found that this particular compound, found within the geranium plant, is a sympathomimetic, aliphatic amine with indirect (i.e., by increasing norepinephrine levels) and/or direct activity at alpha and beta-adrenoceptors.
This compound’s influence upon the sympathetic nervous system (SAS) and norepinephrine levels is something very important to consider as the SAS and norepinephrine are considered to play important roles when it comes to influencing metabolic rate and especially the rate at which we burn calories while at rest.
An interesting and unique property of this particular compound is that although it has CNS stimulant activity, it lacks the typical phenethylamine skeleton commonly seen in other stimulants such as ephedrine.
In terms of efficacy, unpublished clinical studies have found that certain formulations containing the compound are able to produce effects consistent with those seen with highly effective weight loss aides.
Unfortunately, this exciting compound has drawn the attention of competitors who wish to disseminate misleading and outright false information about it.
One example is the notion that the compound isn’t found in nature. In fact, a 1996 study found that the compound, although found in quantities of less than one percent of the total weight, was a constituent of geranium oil produced from the stems and leaves of the geranium plant (i.e., Pelargonium graveolens) collected from the Guizhou Province of China. This, combined with the fact that the plant was used in foods prior to the passing of the DSHEA legislation, means it is compliant.
The next topic has been the rumor circulating that the compound will cause false-positives on drugs screenings, indicating the presence of amphetamines. This is not true. There is no data available to support these assertions nor does the non-phenethylamine structure of the molecule lend itself to overt cross-reactivity.
Yet, even after these false statements have been refuted, certain competitors have not given up and have tried yet again. Now that it has been established that the compound is effective, DSHEA compliant, and is not going to cause false-positive drug screenings, they are now stating the compound is dangerous.
Yet again, they are incorrect. A study using humans was also conducted and did not indicate any severe adverse events. Finally, there are at least four soon to be published clinical trials with the compound that have shown the compound is rather safe and does not lead to any serious adverse side effects in normal, healthy humans.
In closing, should the FDA ban 1,3 D or more evidence is uncovered that it is not in the best interest of the WNBF and INBF, then of course we will ban it as well, but for now, it is legal.

Mr. Chairman,
Just a quick question regarding banned substances. I have Crohn's Disease (gastrointestinal disease) and I get an IV infusion every 3-4 months to keep my symptoms in remission. The IV includes Infliximab (antibody medication) and Methylprednisolone (corticosteroid). I was wondering if either of these would cause problems with a test. They are not anabolic by any means and physiologically they're probably counter-productive to bodybuilding... But I'm wondering what the stance of the INBF/WNBF is on these substances. Thanks for your time,
Eric

Hey Eric,
As far as II can tell, there is no reason these would prevent you from competing. Prednisone is actually catabolic to a degree, so you are right it is counterproductive. As with all prescription meds, please bring a Dr.'s note with you to your drug test to avoid any confusion and good luck at your next show.

Unfortunately, there isn't alot of info on it and I can't find a product label. Seems sketchy, so if you are competing in an INBF/WNBf event, I would avoid it.

Whenever I have a question on a substance I email Charlie directly to ask about the ingredients. Sometimes he gets back to me right away and other times he has to look into it. It's always worth asking before taking ANYTHING.
And on another note to that, you should do your research before taking anything anyway!!!

Biotivia Bio Forge
Hi,
I just needed some clarification on the legality of Biotivia Bio Forge in a natural comp.
As far as I can see, there is only natural, non banned substances in it, but it still does seem to have a significant impact on free test for a non PH. Would this increase in free test be suspect in a competition situation.
Many thanks,
Lou.
