ive read that it works the lower part of the pecs, if you lean foward when doing them.

    Wide?

Do you guys think it is essential to have a wide grip to activate the chest on weighted dips? I use a generally shoulder width grip and a slight lean forward with my elbows slighly out.

I guess put another way, what is the best way to maximize both chest and tricep work in the same movement.

    Wide grip=more chest + delts

narrow grip=balanced activation of tri's and chest

    close grip=tricep dominant

Lower part, which is why many people use them as substitutes for decline press.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

Exactly. Except you MUST lean forward slightly for it to actually train your lower pecs.

Considering anytime I use 90+lbs it literally feels like the mid part of my chest muscle is tearing, I would say it works the mid/upper part of MY chest. I had to stop doing heavy dips because I am afraid to injure myself
