Just passed the NASM!!
just went down to the testing center today to take the nasm.
finish in half the time and the guy comes in and sais,
"hmmmm... wellll... you passed"
best feeling in the world. nasm took me alot longer to prepare than
id say most people, 6 months about? ya.
so glad i passed and dont have to pay 100 dollars to retake.
my opinion was that nasm was one of those tests where they intentionally
try and confuse you, i swear some of the questions didn't even sound like
they were a question. or they present material that i am familiar with, but
word the question in a way where I felt like i had to guess what they were asking me.
it was hard. only a few questions from the practice test i found were on the real one.
but i think the practice test prepared me for the type of questions nasm was going
to throw at me. taking the practice test 3-4 tiems a week definately helped.

Congrats man!! I just finished up going through all the material the other day - going to start reviewing tomorrow, get my CPR/AED card this weekend and try to sit for the exam some time next week.

I recall when I took it and they ask a question about BMI and all answers had a % after the number. ie, 25%, 30%, 35%. Complete NASM tech fail. obviously it wasn't a HUGE deal - but still enough to screw you up when your trying to go over everything in your head.

I remember questions having answers with the right number but wrong units! Sad when we pay so much for certifications but they can't write a quality test.

Interesting to hear to this test was worded in a way that was meant to confuse the test taker. I just took and passed the ACSM cPT test a couple days ago and I thought the same thing about that test. Almost every other question I got so frustrated from the way they asked it I wanted to punch the computer screen and shoot off an angry email to ACSM. Too many of those could have been interpreted two different ways. Because there were so many of those types of questions, I was nervous as hell to click the "end review" button to get my results. I scored 737 (550 passes), but was still super pissed at how poorly put together that test was.
How do the NSCA exams compare as far as wording and being direct with the question go?

When i was studying for the exam I just read the book over once, then went back and studied some of the important stuff again, watched the dvd videos, and took the practice exam a handfull of times.
The test was actually pretty hard, but if you just take your time to actually think out the problems you should do fine.
I passed first try back in September. I got my first interview at a gym tomorow. I have to train two of the trainers. Can't Wait!

I actually just took the NASM CPT yesterday. I passed but it was the worst put together test I've taken in recent memory. There is so much going wrong in there - ambiguity with the questions, poor wording, answers in wrong units, ambiguity with the answers, random questions that aren't even covered in the book (such as NASM's recertification requirements). This test is still doable thanks to the fact that there are 120 questions. They can only inconvenience you on so many.
There was at least one question where all 4 of the answers were clearly BS and at least one question where all 4 of the answers were correct (and there's no all of the above). At least three questions where the correct answer should be "it depends," but that's never an option either.
For $500, I'd have expected a well put together test, but I passed so there's no reason to give it another thought - and that's probably why they don't make a better test.

Most of the questions in this thread are answered here: http://www.nasm.org/getcertified/
As for the test, it's harder than the practice and you do need to know your stuff, but just take your time. You get 2 hours, 120 questions. Answer the ones you know 100% right away, skip everything else. Then work your way backwards. After several passes there should be less than 10 questions you're straight up guessing on.
If you can consistently get 90% or higher on the practice and you've been going over the material (and not just taking the practice 100 times), you're set.

Just got back, It went pretty good. Each of the trainers created a scenario for me. First one was 45 yr old overweight who has never worked out before. Second one was a field hockey player who wanted to improve her game. Both of them threw a few curve balls at me while training them but I felt good about the sessions. I did a 15 minute consult before too.
I think I got the job, still crossing my fingers tho ;-)
