How accurate are body fat scales.

I just bought a Body Fat Scale today, and I was just wondering how accurate they are. I haven't taken my body fat with any other methods yet, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I measured myself with shorts, boxers and a T-Shirt and it came up as 16.2%. I then did it twice more without any clothes on at all; getting 15.1% and 14.5%. Do these things tend to under scale you or over?

most actually read a good 10 percent low....very innacurate, bod-pod is usually more accurate than even the pinch test.

I'm pretty sure I'm not 25%+ body fat, though. Acccording to body measurements, alot of "online" calculators show me as 16%. Someone on the body fat estimation thread estimated me around 16% as well. I know it sounds like I'm answering my own question, but honestly I'm not quite sure if ANY of the results were accurate; which is why I asked in the first place.

I would agree that the body fat scales are not that accurate. That being said, if you use the scale at the same time everyday (such as first in the morning) you can get a gauge of your progress. The problem the scales have is hydration... But if you average your results over the course of a week, I feel it's a good week to track your progress.

Any type of bio-resistance BF measurement device (bodyfat scales or those hand held devices from the gym) are pretty inconsistent and aren't that reliable. Pinch Tests and Bodpods are what most people use to get accurate test results.

While BIA scales tend to be notoriously inaccurate, I think if your avatar is somewhat current it is close in this case. You look mid-teensish %BF.
