Whey protein effects on kidneys and liver

Look, I'm vegetarian. I drink milk and eat cheese. I eat lots of vegetables, of every kind and color. Eat the right carbs and the right fats as well. I'm bulking right now and I've decided to consume whey protein three times a day to fulfill my body's protein needs. Around 140 g of protein a day, divided in three big doses. So... I'm worried about what this can do to my kidneys or my liver. I also take a daily multivitamin and chromium picolinate. I don't take any other medication, by the way.

If there anything I can do to prevent my kidneys and liver to get any harm of such high doses of protein?

By the way, I'm going to start alternating whey protein with egg protein and another protein which is a mix of both... in case you were about to say something.

Come on, guys, some answers, please!

If you consume EXTREME amounts of it, yes it can, but why the hell would someone consume 100-150g+ of whey in a day.

Breakfast, PWO & Nightime (2-3 hours before bed) are good times to take it, unless you do Meal Replacements too.

But what if you take extreme proteins and drink loads of water as well?

Shouldnt that keep the kidneys in order?

There is NO, I repeat NO CONCRETE LINK BETWEEN HIGH PROTEIN INTAKE AND LIVER OR KIDNEY DAMAGE.

There, was, to the best of my knowledge ONE study linking the two and everyone lost their **** and made gross assumptions based on it.

Fact is that study was conducted on people in varying degrees of KIDNEY FAILURE, not healthy people and it did in fact exacerbate the problem, but so does virtually everything when your body is already going to hell.

I don't think taking 50 grams of whey at a time is gonna be all that helpful. I'd suggest spreading it out through the day. Still if you are taking enough to hurt your kidneys and livers you are gonna have plenty of other health problems to go with the kidneys and liver. Whey protein is protein and if you don't eat protein you will eventually die. Getting optimum protein will probably help you live longer. I've read a couple of studies where whey was shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.

High protein diets are only of concern in people with renal problems. A healthy individual doesn't really have anything to worry about.

    ...but helps to clarify.

There are possibilities for liver or kidney issues to arise, but you must already be predisposed to that problem for it to occur. If you are really worried, then see a doctor about your liver and kidneys to see if they are ok. But don't listen to the doctor if he gives you advice without having first properly examined you (which reminds me of the doc who said I drink too much water, after I told her I drink a gallon a day, when all she did was listen to my heart and check my blood pressure).

Hey bro, I use Gold standard whey and my doctors told me too much protein could affect liver. its advisable to take a break around 1 month after each container of whey is consumed. My doctors recommended Liv 52 tablets for me to protect my liver and reduce the risk of damage. Its an affordable and good product. I use this and have been taking whey twice a day for 2 years. no problems soo far.

whey protiein damages your finances, because it is a waste of money and has NO benefit whatsoever over whole food.

The trolling in here is unbelievable.

OP - whey protein (in the amount you are eating it) is unlikely to affect your kidneys or liver. I'm surprised no-one ever mentions gout when they discuss protein and health risks.... just ask King Henry VIII of England!

    Finally^^^! Thanks for posting!

Op you haven't given anyone enough information other than to say you drink protein shakes that amount to 140 grams and you apparently weigh 168 lbs. Knowing your veggie, then it's safe to assume you aren't getting a lot of other protein unless you like soy or you are eating a lot of beans and rice.

In all seriousness unless your are trolling, or you have renal disease, liver disease or you are simply a herbivore, then you won't have a problem eating powder milk products. Good luck!
