    Average Weight For Guy 5'9

What is an average weight for a guy 5'9? I was shooting for something in the 140-145 range. Is this about what most guys this height weigh who are fit, not huge, but toned and in shape? Just curious as to what some others weight at my height.

    I'd say about 160-170

Average is completely relative. If you ask your doctor, he will tell you that a guy who is 6'2" and weights 210 is "overweight", when in fact he is 9% BF and just a gym nut.

Average man in this country is 5'10" 193lbs of blubber. If you want to be fit and healthy, it depends on your build and your sport, if any.

    By sport:
    120-135lbs - mid/long distance runner
135-145 - bike racer or triathlete
    145-160 - soccer player, swimmer
160+ whatever you want (but you are too small for american football or basketball)

Ultimately it depends at what weight you feel most comfortable and natural given your normal activities. Personally I don't gain any strength and lose agility, speed and lots of endurance if I'm above 165. Below 155 I'm not that strong either, but am presumably faster, though I've spent most of the past 5 years at ~158-163.

there is something wrong with your workout if you are not gaining strength at that weight. a 5'10 sub 170lb IMO is already in the skinny side. im you average 5'10, 192lb without much blubber. i don't look huge either.

to the OP, i agree that you aim for mid 180s with low BF.

Well im the same height as you and weigh 140 im very lean not much muscle on me, acording to doctors at my height i should weigh 11stone which is 154. But i have done boxing for years and it was important to keep weight off, this is the heaviest i have ever been, started to bulk now though

    Hope that helped.

140lbs would be a good weight if your gay and want to pick up dudes at a club...
George St Pierre is 5'10" and probably walks around at 180-185lbs.

I imagine it matters so much though how thick your back and legs are so can't really make a blanket statement.

edit: we'll average i would have to say 155 because i was 5'5 freshman year weighing 150. but i grew some tree trunks

Under 160 is tiny for 5'9 dude. I guess if you want to look like a marathon runner or a jockey then it's fine. My personal ideal weight for me at 5'10 is 180, right now I'm 195.

agreed any sport like hockey, football, rugby, sprinters, or guys that just go to the gym. It seems like anyone under 170 is on the small side. 180-190 seems like a good weight for 5'9 if ur ripped

he diets down to 180-3ish or so for training camp, and then dyhdrates 10 more pounds for weigh ins. Certain guys like Thiago Silva cut quite a bit more (ATT in general cut a lot).

Too small for American football? The majority of NFL running backs are under 6'0 with quite a few in the 5'9-5'11 range. Lots of cornerbacks are in that size range too, you'll even see safety's that short and of course kickers/punters along with receivers.

Sorry that just ticked me off cause I'm 5'8" lmao

But anyway OP I think 160-170 would look good lean. Ideally 175-180.

    I wish I knew

Average weight isn't relative . Average weight is the total weight of group divided by the number of that group. What a doctor' says is healthy isn't the average weight. It is based on healthy people , their longevity and their realtive weight. But there is a number. I am 5 ' 8 and 200 lbs . People say I look skinny but my bmi says that I am obese.

A guy who is 5' 9" and 160 could be soft, plump, and mushy or he could be pretty lean and muscular...

I've never seen anyone walk in a room with a sign saying "I weigh XXX pounds." Use the mirror to determine if you like what you see. That could vary by 20 pounds or more, based on your body fat.

Why respond to something that you find pointless. I would very much like to know what the average guy my height weights. If you don't fine .

Why respond to a near decade old thread?

BMI is a measure of populations and health factors based on those weights by height. Sounds like a humble brag to me. Well played!
