    How does bodybuilding affect the face?

    I noticed that most bodybuilders have rugged faces, whereas scrawny or fat people don't. Does bodybuilding somehow change the shape of the face as well? If so, I just can't understand how this happens since the face itself isn't being worked out. And if so, how does this happen?

    Kind of true. Depends if you are bulking or cutting. Bodybuilders on a bulk hold a lot of water in their face, so it looks kind of chubby. But on a cut, they have a really distinct jawline and more attractive facial features.

    pretty much this...for the most part..bodybuilders tend to be lean which makes their facial features stand out much more

    and if you're talking about pics of pro bodybuilders, steroids make the jawline appear wider as their jaw muscles will also be growing at an accelerated weight.

    I was just going to mention that but wasn't certain of it.

    Also, hard exertion/valsalva maneuver will sometimes lead to burst blood vessels in the face and eyes, which might make the face seem redder or blotchier.

    When you lose body fat, you also lose fat from your face as well. That's why fat people have chubby faces, and most lean people don't. I hope this helps.

    I can understand the losing fat part. Losing fat makes you lose fat all over your body, including your face, which would give your face a more chizelled look. But I've also seen pictures of scrawny guys with scrawny faces, whose faces seemed more masculine, fuller and robust after they started getting more muscular from bodybuilding. This is the most puzzling to me, as how their faces seem to change for the better along with their body. The only thing I can seem to think of is if maybe building your neck muscles also works out the face muscles somehow. Or does the face just somehow change to match the state of the body?

    See, you have to eat a ton when you bulk. So you're obviously using your face more. Bam, face muscle growth. Scrawny people don't eat enough. Do a good bulk, and then cut down. There's your chiseled face.

    Here's a beginner's workout program:

    Breakfast: Steakx1. Eggsx8. Milkx1. (tenderize the steak more to start, this will just be a warmup).

    Lunch: Carrotsx2. Applex1 (maybe x2). Beef Jerkyx1 bag. Milkx1.

    Dinner: Steakx2. Entire wheel of cheesex1. Milkx1. The steak should not be tenderized at this point. The tougher, the better.

    Once you get further along in your training, you can go for whole animals or hard surfaces.

    You can replace eggs with cereal. Captains of Crunch anyone?

    Either from steroids (rare), or more due to the fact mags/tv etc can pick the most photogenic from a large pool of models.

    This. Most "skinny" people lack muscle mass... they still have a lot of bodyfat. Those facial features are often a sign of having less fat on one's face, which is more a side effect of bodybuilding and eating clean.

    Aside from what other guys been saying about lower bodyfat, I think eating more also has a tendency to bulk up the jaw muscle....also eating alot of red meat.

    Also look at people who run marathons, or train for triathlons. They have very run-down faces, and always look older than they are. Physical training, although healthy when done right, ages you.
