Is Ensure safe for kids(1 year old)??

We bought Ensure instead of Pediasure for my nephew who is one year old..

It says that it is not suitable for children but we showed it to a doctor and he says its ok..

    Should we feed him ensure?

    Here are ingredients for Ensure:
Hydrolyzed com starch, sugar (sucrose), corn syrup, maltodextrin (corn), calcium caseinate, high-oleic safflower oil, canola oil, soy protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, corn oil, calcium phosphate tribasic, potassium citrate, magnesium phosphate dibasic, natural and artificial flavor, soy lecithin, sodium citrate, magnesium chloride, salt (sodium chloride), carrageenan, choline chloride, potassium chloride, ascorbic acid, ferrous sulfate, alpha-tocopheryl acetate, zinc sulfate, niacinamide, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, cupric sulfate, vitamin A palmitate, thiamine chloride hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, folic acid, chromium chloride, biotin, sodium molybdate, sodium selenate, potassium iodide, phylloquinone, vitamin D3 and cyanocobalamin.

the ingredients dont matter, its the nutrients that do. i mean, it wont kill him but the nutritional needs of a growing baby are TOTALLY different than those of an aging adult.

first and foremost, a babys nutrition goes to grow the brain, then the body. There is a reason that there is added DHA and ARA in infant formula (these fatty acids make up a considerable portion of the grey matter of the brain.) You growing childs nutrition is not the place to skimp on the grocery budget.

Human breast milk is, by calorie division, 37% carbohydrate, mostly in the form of lactose. Lactose is a disaccharide: it is made up of two sugars (galactose and glucose) linked together.

still the whole thing is made up of starches, sugar, oil... Vitamins and minerals of course and a bunch of unknown crap u shouldn't be feeding children with. Carrageenan for example is inadvisable to use in baby formulas.... Give the kid some real food

Why is your 1 year old nephew drinking Pediasure? Unless there is a medical reason for supplementation, it's unnecessary. I'm not sure how well Ensure matches up to Pediasure, but you can compare the nutrition info of Ensure to that found here:
    http://pediasure.com/kid-nutrition-p...utrition-drink

If weight gain or calorie intake is a concern, there are LOTS of other things to try before resorting to Pediasure. Nutrient and calorie dense foods like avacodo are a good place to start.

Here's some helpful suggestions for offering foods to picky toddlers:

This is a bodybuilding community. What do we know about nutrition for a one year old? We're all just guessing.

In my opinion, I think it's not good for him. Ensure is fortified with vitamins and minerals. They're fortified for an adult person in mind. According to the label, a lot of the vitamins and minerals will be met by 25% to 30% per 8 oz serving. That's for an adult. That's got to be more than a full day's RDA for a one year old.

If you really don't have a choice then mix half Ensure with half full-milk.

Not sure why you would want to give either to a child. Better off giving them milk and blending up other real foods than feeding them sugar and over-priced processed junk.

He's looking to gain 150 pounds of LBM. Right now, he's mostly using protein shakes, but he's looking to incorporate more whole foods into his diet soon....

Give it to kids in the hospital with poor weight gain or failure to thrive. Hell, I've given it through NG tubes for a FTT kid. Nothing wrong with it at all.
