Whenever I come back home, after school, I always feel tired. Usually I end up taking a nap. But then I can't sleep during the nighttime, which really screws me up the next day during school. Do you guys got any tips to go throughout the day without sleeping?

I've always had this problem and it was always pretty bad, but then I got to college this year and I didn't have class everyday, and didn't have annoying parents waking me up or keeping me from sleeping, so I got REALLY ****ed up, sleep wise. Just getting back on track.
Just stay occupied. Go on a walk, you won't fall asleep standing up, outside.500+

same thing happens to me
today i went to school, came home at 11:00, passed out hella quick
just need to get into the habit of going to bed at the same time every night
which is difficult b/c our schedules simply may not let us. ie: usually i like to be ASLEEP by 10:00 (and wake up around 7:00) but on Mondays, i don't get out of class until 9:00PM ;/
just eat something good and do not sit on the couch or bed b/c your brain thinks its time to sleep

Sounds like a good idea, probably gonna try it out tomorrow. Tell you how it goes.
I usually go to bed anywhere between 10 - 11:30
Thanks for the advice
Lol this.
I try that. I can't sleep at night if I do. Plus I have a busy schedule, so taking naps really screws it up.
Weird, whenever I take 20-30 minute naps, I feel really tired and want to sleep more.

in my senior year, i would often sleep after school. i enjoyed it, i dont know why you think its such a problem. then i didnt go to bed until 1:45 am (by choice). if i'm at school, i usually dont get tired. its when i get home and im just sitting around. sleep till dinner, then have 6-7 hours of whatever.

This, appariently.
I've heard/read that if you take a short nap it can actually help you sleep at night.
Plus you should look at when you're getting up, going to bed and stuff if you're having trouble sleeping at night. Make sure it's always the same time and nothing too crazy.
I normally feel tired after school, then I eat and go to the gym and I'm right.400/230/445@165lbs

This thread has me thinking... I have been, for the whole Fall semester so far, having a relative lack of sleep. Almost consistently, I find it difficult to fall asleep when I hit the sack at about midnight (almost every night), and there are numerous occasions in which I'll just stay up listening to my iPod, or even continuing research for my classes instead of sleeping. This can go until 3:00 or 4:00 AM, it's ridiculous. I usually wake up between 8:00 AM, to 8:20, sometimes even 7:00 if I have a meeting with my councilor. First class starts at 9:35, I get out at about 11:00, then come 12:45 PM, I'm in my second class after an hour and a half stretch of time (usually eating, then studying), and that doesn't end until 3:00.
About two weeks ago, I remember almost dozing off in my second class, Algebra. This was my low point. Now I remember doing, and I usually do on days like these, nap after coming back from school. My naps are typically an hour or two when I do them (on average every other school day). The problem is, I sometimes let myself go (I don't set the alarm), and sleep in until the evening, usually 7:00 or 8:00. This gets me in a weird sleep pattern which causes me to stay up late. Even on my off-days (I go to classes twice a week), I sleep in long (until 11:00 or 12:00 PM), and go to bed late again.
It's a habit I can't easily break, due to the fact that I'm tied down to studies, and other important things to manage. Any recommendations? Am I a text-book case of insomnia, or is it something else?
