I use it on the rare occasion that I do seated OHP. I do it because it feels more comfortable in that position. On bench press, I'd imagine it would be a similar reason. There's probably some scientific reason (or maybe not), but Hell if I know.

takes A LOT of pressure off the wrists, but def not recommended while going heavy

i use it to warm up, then for my 1-2 working sets (i increase weights as i go)

then my wrists are not completely jacked for my last 2 heavy sets

I use it for flat bench. You can certainly feel the difference. I have more pushing power directly from the chest with the thumbless grip. When I get to the last set I usually go back to normal grip cause if anything goes wrong Im ****ed.

Just make sure your hands are tilted back slightly so the bar cant roll off your palms. And be careful.

    edit:

See right before he drops the bar his hands tilt forward?

I remember there was a video of a guy benching like over 300 suicide and it fell on his neck. I cringe just thinking about that

suicide grips are retarded, but reverse grips have benefits.

Personally I wouldnt even wanna risk trying reverse grip on a barbell bench. I mean atleast with suicide grip IF you drop it, its gonna land on your chest. If that happens with reverse grip its going straight for your face. Scares the hell out of me

I use it for close grip bench. Puts your wrists at a much better angle. Just make sure you have a good spotter paying close attention.

I never do suicide grips, after seeing that bicep tear vid I'm sticking to regular grips for pulls as well. Damn that looks nasty ..

If someone had asked me if a black man or woman could become president, I would have said yes, but not yet. Barack Obama proved that determination combined with opportunity and intelligence can make things happen—and in an exceptional way."
