Sherpas will go up and kick the bodies over the side so the other climbers dont have to freak out by looking at them.

K2 is a different animal as its mostly alpine climbing so not as much fixed rope as Everest. Plus its not as popular so most people stay away from it because its more dangerous too.

I don't understand why they claim they cannot remove the bodies? If you can get that close to photograph them, you can certainly remove them. It's kind of cool leaving them there, but that's another conversation altogether.

Because there is a difference between getting close to them and being able to lug a human body down 20,000ft+. They are already carrying a whole load of kit.

Agree with some of your points, but bolded part? lol no. Even with the 10 deaths this May alone, death rate stands at 6.5%.

And typically the ones who call the climbers dumb are the ones who would never understand why they would do it in the first place. And no amount of trying to explain that would change a thing.

Mt. Everest has around 200 dead bodies on the mountain. It is nearly impossible for recovery of a body off the mountain. Most of the bodies are in the same exact position they were when they died. Perfectly preserved in time because of the cold. Along the route up to the summit climbers will pass all these bodies. There are bodies over 50 years old that look like they were placed there yesterday.

The "death zone" is 26,000 feet. Air is so thin that there is no margin for error. Immediate frostbite will happen. Lack of oxygen leaves climber bewildered and weak. Cost for one to go on a trip is $25,000.


Several bodies are given names. This one is "green boots". Many of the bodies are now landmarks along the way up. "green Boots" has been there since 1996.

But if you make it.... Imagine. You would be instantly labeled bamf by anyone who even knows. The prestige that comes with climbing Mt. Everest is incredible. I'd love to have that one my resume. Imagine the feeling that comes from climbing Everest, as you stand on the peak and look out at the world. I can't think of anything greater.

And I'm sure death is even less likely these days with better climbing gear and whatnot.

Either way, **** it. I can't even imagine how nervous you'd be waiting for the morning when you start your climb. I don't think I could sleep.

Isn't is easy to climb everest now? I'm pretty sure I heard of like a 12 year old doing it, and them having like tour groups going to the summit.
